What are you going to do for you?

Thread Starter

I was thinking about the baby gear thread, how I was fairly minimalist the first time around and didn't really buy anything.  I'm not buying a lot now, but I'm being pretty intentional about it and I am buying and doing some things I thought were frivolous and stupid the first time around.  Silly me!  :)

That got me to thinking about things I am going to do for myself later on to celebrate becoming a mama again.  What are you going to do for yourself?

I'm planning on having lots of flowers.  DP will almost certainly bring me some, and I will probably be able to poach some sweet flowering branches from the city.  No one is going to yell at the huge pregnant lady!

Get some nice maternity items.  There is a lot in the goodwill now.

Bottle of decent champagne for a toast

Have a friend come over and take some nice pictures with the new baby (last time we just had a few blurry shots from the hospital)

Going to do my makeup before I get my picture taken... might even get crazy and braid my hair.  I thought that was a vain thing to do before, but really, I like wearing makeup.

Take a bazillion rose epsom salt baths....

Let DP know I'd love some little token "you had my baby, again" gift. ;)

actually USE the bath herbs I bought two babies ago in a large bath after baby is born.

Sleep LOL.

SOMEHOW get someone to take pictures. I'm no longer in speaking terms with the person that took the last photos of my last birth. Hmm...
Buy some new (to me) cute maternity clothes. I hate frumpy and I'm tired of my old worn out hand me down things I've been using lol. I'm ready for some new cute things. Hopefully I can get some for my Christmas or something.

This is great! I got a charm bracelet for mothers day a couple a years ago with some cute charms, but the bracelet it's self wasn't really my style so I bought a new one this week (for about $6) and a charm for each of my girls - I didn't buy their birthstones because I don't care for the way their colors look together, but I bought a light blue one for my DD1, pink for DD2 and purple for DD3 (all their favorite colors) and am looking forward to adding one for the new baby too.

Also looking forward to some new maternity clothes - I wore out my favorite pants postpartum last time so I need a couple of new pairs. Also, I'm a bit heavier this time to start out so it'd be nice to get a few more flattering shirts too.

I'm also planning on buying a mattress topper for our bed.

Love this.

I am going to start taking yoga classes again.  Just have to work out childcare ;)

indulge in some massage, when we can afford it

maybe get a couple of new (at least to me) maternity clothes since I will be bigger in winter early spring this time around (DD was an August baby so I have mostly tank tops.)

I pretty good start, I think.

I haven't given a lot of thought to this time.  Last time was a healing birth of sorts because of the treatment from DH and his family during/after the second baby was born.  Plus we'd never had the money to buy anything nice before so...I did a lot.  This is what I did:

  • Purchased a dressy outfit for babe
  • Had nice pictures of babe/family portraits
  • Purchased two really nice carriers (Ergo off BabySteals and a used Beco Gemini)
  • Made it clear through signage and all that DH was to stay with me during labor; no one was to remove the baby from my arms; no one was to give a pacifier; no phone calls were allowed until the midwives left (dh named our second child out from under me by announcing a name we hadn't discussed in phone calls while I was being stitched)
  • Insisted that the inlaws not visit for two weeks (they hate me and aren't bashful about it)

This time, I will buy the baby one nice outfit since I don't imagine it will need much more. I will probably get a new bouncy seat and/or rocker from the consignment shop.  That's probably it. We don't need much.  I am also forking out quite a bit for my midwife of choice when there are others we'd be completely reimbursed for.

Nothing. Well except maaaaaybe a new stash of fuzzi bunz since my old stash totally bit the dust after so many children.  I'm not holding my breath as cash is tight and the fbs are pricey  I'll probably just buy some new prefolds and snappis.

Really?  we wouldn't be reimbursed a dime for a midwife.  The hospital around here chased away midwives years ago.  Two years ago I found out there was a "midwife" practicing out of the hospital.  But she really doesn't seem that much different than my ob.

I plan on eating right this time and continuing exercising so I don't gain a ton and look and feel awful throughout this pregancy, and reduc water weight.

I want to do professional maternity pics, which I didn't do with either of my other 2 kids.

I want a professional birth photograher this time.  We didn't even have any pics of my 2nd son's birth.

I want to have professional pics taken of the baby right away, or after a couple days. We had none for either of the other kids.

Massages, sleep, and be happy!

Samaritan Ministires reimburses for a home birth 100% providing that the midwife can give you an itemized receipt ;)
