K12 or Connection Academy: Any independent (unenrolled) users out there?

I was reading the k12 thread and someone mentioned being able to do it independently.  I am wondering if anyone has tried to just take courses with either of the two online schools and how your expriences were.  Would love to hear about that... 

I also do not know how it works?  Does it mean you just sign up for the one or two classes you want and go through it at your own pace? Is there a set time when you should be through a course? Do you still get the materials and get to use the online platform for learning? Exactly how does it work to just purchase a course instead of going through the PS system?  

Would love to hear from those of you who have used this option.

I called k12 last spring to inquire about taking LA/history with them for kiddo. If I remember correctly you need to pay for the classes but everything else is like you are a regular enrolled student with k12/connections.

My kids are enrolled but in the private academy, so I know I don't have the straight answer you're looking for. But I can tell you that even just using the private enrollment option offers a lot more flexibility than a public charter option would. We don't have Class Connect requirements, for example, and we really can pace on our own. My two (so far) like plugging into their classes once in a while, but I like the fact that they can just do the lessons and keep moving if we want to.

My sons are inrolled in Cobblestone Academy and they love it.  With Cobblestone Academy it is totally independent.  When you take classes with Cobblestone you go at your own pace it is perfect for those who are on the go a lot.  Out of all of the online schools that we have checked out they have been so expensive and boring.  When we signed up for Cobblestone we started out only with a few classes to see if it was as good as they had advertised and it was our boys loved it so much that we ended up doing all of their school courses through Cobblestone.  As a parent I like it because if we have any questions the teachers are always right there to aid us.  Love their video instructions they are so easy to use.  Hope this helps.  If you want to check them out this is their site www.cobblestoneacademy.com
