Feb DDC Second Trimester Check-In Chat - Page 2

I'm 15 weeks today. Hard to believe!

1.What's going on with your morning sickness, 1st trimester fatigue, and your baby bump?

Worse than ever unfortunately. Morning sickness, reflux, spitting headaches, acne and dizzy spells. Have gained one pound now but still in pre-pregnancy clothes.

2. Are you planning to get the anatomy scan? How do you feel about it? Nervous, excited?

No but neither my dr nor midwife will attend the home birth without it. Ask me how I feel about it when my hormones settle down ;)

3. Do you know your baby's sex or are you planning to find out during pregnancy?

No we want it to be a surprise

4. How are things with your OB/midwife/ UC research going?

There's one midwife in the country so my choice was pretty straight forward ;)

5. Have you developed any new issues?

The passing out thing is new. It really took the wind out of my sails to lose my confidence in just being able to walk to the store. These surges of hormones are more dynamic and extreme than the ones earlier in my pregnancy. I can feel really great for a day or two and then worse than ever for the next 4 days. I started to look at my patterns and noticed that I'm showing the symptoms of pre-natal depression. Trying to make some big changes to try to change that trend. It's just so not like me to be down about anything but take away my career goals and my freedom and fill me up with hormones and yes, we have a problem.

6. Are you nesting, or getting that second trimester burst of energy?

Not really. I have the desire to nest and have been making lots of lists from bed. Look out world, as soon as I am back on my feet my VISA card and I are probably going to cause the earth to shift.

7. If you arent a first time mom, how has this pregnancy differed from your other's/ if you are a first time mom, how has it differed from what you thought things would be like?

First time mom and very shocked at how it's all been for me. I thought I'd feel all happy and glowy and connected to my body.

8. Are you planning a shower/blessingway/ feed the freezer party?

My friends are planning a shower.

9. Names- if you've got em'

I'm back to the drawing board again ;)

10. What's the biggest thing(s)  you have to get done before baby arrives?

Get my strength back and my head back in the game. Honestly nothing else is more important right now.

hey ladies, i'm a certified clinical herbalist and have pregnant mamas asking for heartburn relief all the time. a gentle licorice root, marshmallow root, and peppermint leaf tea sipped on throughout the day helps a lot. marshmallow and licorice also help increase milk production for later in pregnancy and after birth. when we're all nearing the end of our pregnancies, i'll post a link to my new mother tea so you can see those ingredients.

oh, and i have a recipe for making your own slippery elm lozenges with licorice root tea and slippery elm bark powder that last a long time and are fantastic and gentle. let me know if you'd like it!

That's what's in Motherlove Heartburn tea- it's not working anymore for me. I've used it for two pregnancies, but this time, its just not cutting it.

I did natural stuff with DS1 but with DS2 I opted for Zantac. Hate taking it, but it was a lifesaver. Then I wondered why I suffered through the first time!

1.What's going on with your morning sickness, 1st trimester fatigue, and your baby bump?

I didn't have a ton of morning sickness- just a few weeks of nausea.  Mostly just fatigue- and that's slowly getting better.  Some days are better than others!  As far as baby bump, I still think I just look like I ate too many donuts- I'm excited to start looking pregnant.

2. Are you planning to get the anatomy scan? How do you feel about it? Nervous, excited?

I'm getting it done the first week in October- I'm excited to see the baby for the first time!

3. Do you know your baby's sex or are you planning to find out during pregnancy?

We want to find out

4. How are things with your OB/midwife/ UC research going?

I really like my midwife.  She works out of a hospital.  When I first started going to her, there were 2 OB/GYNs and 5 Midwives in the practice.  Now there is only 1 OB/GYN and 1 Midwife.  That makes me a little nervous- I'm going to talk to her at my appointment Wednesday to see if the reason they left is something I need to worry about.

5. Have you developed any new issues?

Just anxiety.  I have a history of GAD and this pregnancy has really exacerbated that.  I'm just trying to keep up with my meditation and journaling to get through it.  I was on meds in the past and all they did was turn me into a zombie and help me gain 70lbs.  It would have to get REALLY bad before I consider meds again.

6. Are you nesting, or getting that second trimester burst of energy?

I'm also at the point where mentally I am, but physically I'm not.  I just keep making lists of things I need to do without actually doing them.

7. If you arent a first time mom, how has this pregnancy differed from your other's/ if you are a first time mom, how has it differed from what you thought things would be like?

I didn't expect the fatigue or anxiety to be this bad.  I also didn't expect to be so freaked out about gaining weight.

8. Are you planning a shower/blessingway/ feed the freezer party?

I have 2 cousins who are also pregnant and due in Jan/Feb so I think the 3 of us will have a big extended family shower (we're Irish Catholic and my grandparents had 10 kids.  I think we're up to 60 first cousins)

9. Names- if you've got em'

Oliver and Amelia.  When I told a friend of mine we were thinking about Amelia she said "I know a lot of dogs named Amelia".  Oh well, I still like the name!

10. What's the biggest thing(s)  you have to get done before baby arrives?

EVERYTHING!  We need to clean out the room that will be the nursery, figure out what we need to buy (and buy it), find day care for when I go back to work, etc.  Good thing I still have 5.5 months (c:

1.What's going on with your morning sickness, 1st trimester fatigue, and your baby bump?

so blessed- no morning sickness.  fatigue easing up, but that might be the fact that i found a pair of earplugs and just nurse that morning time for all it's worth.  and my 'bump' is more of a lump- i look chubby, not pregnant, but it's getting rounder and though my breasts just keep pace most of the pregnancy (which is more annoying that sexy, since H cup is just not comfortable), it feels like i'm almost showing, which makes me happy.  gained about 10lbs so far, and almost on the edge of needing maternity clothes, but milking my 'in-between' (post baby favs too) for all they're worth!

2. Are you planning to get the anatomy scan? How do you feel about it? Nervous, excited?

no- i tend to pee on a stick.  then sometime, longer rather than shorter than 9 months, give birth.

3. Do you know your baby's sex or are you planning to find out during pregnancy?

nope.  though if i need an ultrasound, I would totally look and possibly ask.

4. How are things with your OB/midwife/ UC research going?

have a great midwife who delivered my last two babies at home and really impressed both my husband and I with her skills.  so happy to have her again.

5. Have you developed any new issues?

i had a horrible rash at the end of last pregnancy, and see bits of it trying to come back.... but keeping it at bay!  gas?  but that might be the roasted garlic i want to eat with everything.

6. Are you nesting, or getting that second trimester burst of energy?

LOL!!  NO!  i just want to chill out in the sunshine, walk around the farm, stick my feet in cool water, and avoid chores at all cost....  that said, i wake up and cook pancakes/cereal/eggs first thing in the morning, diapers, clean up, beds/bedrooms/getting dressed, playroom clean-up, lunch, walks, naptime, reading/school, work for farms, prepare dinner, clean-up, baths, laundry, bedtime, and then more clean-up, so i'm not sure what i'd do with more energy anyway....

7. If you arent a first time mom, how has this pregnancy differed from your other's/ if you are a first time mom, how has it differed from what you thought things would be like?

Least morning sickness of any pregnancy.  still shedding my hair (with my 3 girls, i didn't shed at all and had thick lustrous mops, this one i'm still shedding).  more painful nursing of my little nursling, but otherwise, pretty standard for what i've done.

8. Are you planning a shower/blessingway/ feed the freezer party?

no.

9. Names- if you've got em'

nope.  i like a lot of names, Sycamore, Alize, Mistral, Habbakuk.  but it takes a few days to name the new baby after i meet them, so holding out for birth.

10. What's the biggest thing(s)  you have to get done before baby arrives?

ummmm, none.  *stares off into space*  yup, got diapers, clothes, blankets, sleeping spot, milk, used to not sleeping, have a maya wrap, so feel pretty ready!!!

Hi Kellybeth, I keep reading conflicting things about licorice. I was eating organic licorice chews to beat my morning sickness in the first while and then I read it's on the "don't take" list but no explanation as to why. And I do like licorice teas. I like it better than ginger and would like to reintroduce that option. Any reasons why it might have been on the bad list? Maybe it's ok after all?

if you don't eat your veggies or get sufficient nutrients then it's definite no-no. licorice root stimulates the excretion of potassium. it's not for use if on steroids or with inhalers or if you have high blood pressure. it's a strong herb, so is low-dose, but I take it as a tea. one teaspoon of root per 8oz boiled water, or suck on licorice root slices for a sore throat. people often underestimate the power of herbal medicine. smile.gif

HOP, you sound like your lifestyle is about a mirror of my own! I bet you're having a boy. I have all boys so far, and never get morning sick, always shed hair, and it's very painful when I'm nursing while pregnant. :)

Sweetestday- thanks for the vote!  it does remind me a lot of my son's pregnancy, and we did manage to hit peak day this time, so kinda hoping!  I loved the pics of you and your little golden boys on the farm.  how's the story on your measurements/heartbeats?

I'm 16 weeks 2 days today!

1.What's going on with your morning sickness, 1st trimester fatigue, and your baby bump?

MS was not bad, and so far it's been totally gone since 13weeks. Fatigue is slowly getting better, I have good and bad days.  Baby bump is there but I don't think it looks like a baby yet unless you know.  I just look fat/bloated I think.

2. Are you planning to get the anatomy scan? How do you feel about it? Nervous, excited?

Yes, getting the 18-20 week ultrasound - excited to find out the gender!

3. Do you know your baby's sex or are you planning to find out during pregnancy?

Will be finding out in about two weeks!

4. How are things with your OB/midwife/ UC research going?

Great - had our second appointment with midwife today and everything is going very well.  She answers any questions I have and makes us feel very comfortable with everything, especially for doing a home birth which is a little daunting since it's our first.

5. Have you developed any new issues?

Eczema.  I have it as a rule on my fingers but I can usually keep it under good control and it rarely bothers me, but about two weeks ago I broke out in it on my hands and I've got some on my eyelids as well (which I haven't had for at least 10 years!).  So that is getting a bit annoying!  If anyone has any tips - I am all ears :)

6. Are you nesting, or getting that second trimester burst of energy?

Like some of you, the nesting has started in my head.  I've only had enough energy to get back to my normal things like cooking and keeping the house somewhat clean  lol!

7. If you arent a first time mom, how has this pregnancy differed from your other's/ if you are a first time mom, how has it differed from what you thought things would be like?

First time mom - The first trimester was definitely strange with the weird appetite, expanding uterus and fatigue.  I'm glad I'm feeling more like myself right now again.

8. Are you planning a shower/blessingway/ feed the freezer party?

Not planning anything myself, but I think my coworkers are planning something.  Not sure about anything else!

9. Names- if you've got em'

We have two boys names and will probably wait until we meet him to decide (if it's a boy that is).  Emmett and Jonah.

For girls, we are still throwing things around but nothing is really sticking.

10. What's the biggest thing(s)  you have to get done before baby arrives?

Some home organization/baby room.  We may need to get a van at some point too since we have two dogs, one of which is quite large!

1.What's going on with your morning sickness, 1st trimester fatigue, and your baby bump?

I never had a lick of morning sickness and my fatigue really cleared up around 9-10weeks, so I've pretty much forgotten it. In the last week or so, I've really started to fill out, so I'm going to have to come out of the closet at work this week.

2. Are you planning to get the anatomy scan? How do you feel about it? Nervous, excited?

I am getting the anatomy scan. The only thing I am nervous about is paying the part not covered by my insurance.

3. Do you know your baby's sex or are you planning to find out during pregnancy?

We aren't planning on finding out the sex.

4. How are things with your OB/midwife/ UC research going?

The midwifery practice I'm going to has been pretty laid back so far. We are mostly buy with trying to pick a birth education class.

5. Have you developed any new issues?

Not sure. My main issue is eating as much super spicy food as possible before the possibility of heartburn increases :)

6. Are you nesting, or getting that second trimester burst of energy?

If by nesting you mean cleaning my house, sure. But then, I'm always trying to clean the extra crap from my house...

7. If you aren't a first time mom, how has this pregnancy differed from your others/ if you are a first time mom, how has it differed from what you thought things would be like?

This is my first pregnancy. It is a lot easier than I had expected.

8. Are you planning a shower/blessingway/ feed the freezer party?

I will have a party, but sometime in the third trimester or after the birth. Right now we are making hard cider and cornhole games for our 10th anniversary party, so I'm busy.

9. Names- if you've got em'

Totally haven't worked on this more than a night. Some that are up for possibility are: Bruno, Frank, Ruth, Alex.

10. What's the biggest thing(s)  you have to get done before baby arrives?

Sleep in a lot.

18wks today

1.What's going on with your morning sickness, 1st trimester fatigue, and your baby bump?

My HG/MS has started slowing up, THANK THE LORD! 1st tri fatigue went away a few weeks ago, but I am still sleeping more than usual.  Baby bump is out n proud, I had a couple of people at church give me the 'knowing eye', lol.

2. Are you planning to get the anatomy scan? How do you feel about it? Nervous, excited?

I'm pretty sure I'll be getting the anatomy scan. Well I have another u/s next week before the actual anatomy scan one. Excited for both.

3. Do you know your baby's sex or are you planning to find out during pregnancy?

Hoping to find out the gender next week.

4. How are things with your OB/midwife/ UC research going?

I think my OB is OK... but there's a strong possibility we will be moving across the country again before baby is due so I will have to start over in terms of practitioner choices.

5. Have you developed any new issues?

My skin has been breaking out pretty badly the last couple of weeks, but I feel like it may be due in part to my recent penchant for guacamole, salsa and chips almost every day.  My hip joints

and lower back are still 'popping' often.

6. Are you nesting, or getting that second trimester burst of energy?

No nesting, and energy is back to a degree, I wouldn't call it a burst.

7. If you aren't a first time mom, how has this pregnancy differed from your others/ if you are a first time mom, how has it differed from what you thought things would be like?

My first time being this pregnant.  Never knew constipation like what I experienced can be commonplace during pregnancy.  Glad it is much better now.

8. Are you planning a shower/blessingway/ feed the freezer party?

Probably when we move (will be back to a state where more of my family and friends reside).

9. Names- if you've got em'

We haven't really discussed any yet this time.

10. What's the biggest thing(s)  you have to get done before baby arrives?

Relocate.... then everything else!  Eeek!
