Happy Birthday Everyone!!! Thought of you ladies a lot this week - it seems like just a moment ago we were all counting down the days together!
Alexander turns one tomorrow, and we held his party today. Despite some recent family dramas, nearly everyone showed up to the party and everyone had a wonderful time. I busted butt to put his party together (in my typical OCD style) and everyone was very connected and and enjoyed the time we spent as a family. I couldn't have asked for a better party.
All this week, I've been playing back this week last year in my mind. The last doctor's appointment, the way the weather felt, all the little things we did to get ready for the baby's arrival.
Today I recalled that we had pasta bolognese for dinner last year on this day, and looking back on it - the night before he was born I was so distracted and restless - yet calm and centered at the same time. I was ready. My son was coming! Even now I'm sitting here and thinking - four and a half hours and I was going into labor! I can still put up every detail of every minute of the twenty hours I was in labor, and the immediate few days after he was born. I look on my hospital stay more fondly than I do vacation memories - to me, be in the maternity ward after the birth of my son was better than staying at the Hilton! Is it weird to be nostalgic for that time?
I'm so contented. Alexander has centered me in a way I never thought possible. Motherhood is the most difficult and the most rewarding thing I've ever done. Well, that's a long winded way of meeting up with you wonderful ladies again and saying I hope your journeys in this last year have been just as amazing as mine. :-)
