UhOh! New trendy names! - Page 2

My DD's in the TITLE!!!  We didn't really pick it because of popularity or lack thereof, but because of it's meaning ("Wisdom" in Greek), but it still kind of bothers me a bit that after we named her that, *everyone else* decided to name their daughters that. Oh well, she loves it, and we love it, and that's all that matters. At least DS' name is safe. :P All people think when they hear his name is that he's named after a fictional movie character (not true. ;) )

I think it's funny how upset people get about the spelling of names (I am seeing it in the comments there).  We don't go out of our way to spell our children's names uniquely, but I do play around with different options. (because our last name is like the #1 most common in the country..world maybe?! LOL so we can afford a little uniqueness!!)  Although none are ever WAY out of the ordinary spellings!  I figure, it's a name unique to them, why should it always be spelled the same as half the other kids in their peer group?  I really don't care if people have to put effort into pronouncing their names. LOL  Some folks have trouble with even the simplest, most common names.  Go figure.  My name isn't terribly common and throws people off a lot, and I'm used to being called many names that AREN'T correct, but I don't really care, I answer to them anyway and only correct people if they ask, because I've done a lot of correcting in my life and it didn't make a difference half the time.  But we name our kids what we do because we love the names and they fit them, not because I want to make it easy for everyone out there who ever has to pronounce or spell them!

Dang, I'm surprised by some of those names. I have to admit, I like many of them.

LOVE Molly & Lucy luxlove.gif But my girl name is set... Shara.

My 13 year old is Henry. Good name that is definitely getting more popular.

Since we name our kids after saints, most of the names we consider (and use) are "normal" and no longer make the popularity lists. DD is Margaret (Maggie) Claire, DS is Samuel Augustine, and the youngest is Mariana (soft "a") Grace. We are thinking of Elizabeth this time around for a girl, and Athanasius for a boy (I guess that one is pretty uncommon)(now don't anyone steal it!!! Haha!).

My name doesn't seem to be common, and I have only met one girl who spelled it the same way- Corrie. I hated my name when I was younger, but now I like it, even if no one ever spells it right.

Same here.  We are thinking of Francis for a boy and Christine or Monica for a girl.  My husband always like the named 'Alphonsus" for a boy, maybe if we have ANOTHER boy...I have to get my Francis in first :)

My name is Emily...VERY popular now...not so popular 40 plus years ago when I was named.

I know this is off-topic, but I had to say that St. Alphonsus is one of my favorite saints! His writings have made a big impact on me. Hmmm... I wonder if Athanasius Alphonsus would be too much? HAHA! Just kidding... that would be one heck of a name!!!

It's funny...I'm not sure if it's because I live in NYC or what but I know soooo many kids with almost all of these names!!
