Chicken Pox!

Hello ladies:)

I am 31 weeks pregnant and my son (2.5) has what I believe is chicken pox. I will call the health centre tomorrow but was just wondering if anyone else has dealt with this before. My mom says she is 99% sure I had them but she never actually took me to the Dr. to be diagnosed, just assumed it was chicken pox at the time. I have read all about the risks and I know that it's actually the best time to get them if I do and that in all likelihood I won't as we are pretty sure I've had them before.

Thank in advance for any insight you may have!:)

Hi, Im a GP Obestetrician in   Outback Australia & have been practising for 27 years .

.Obviously its sensible to get  the diagnosis confirmed . Chickenpox cam affect pregnant women but the time of most concern is under 18 weeks or at the time of delivery .

There was some recent research here in AUstralia confirming that over 95% of the time

family " memories " of having had chickenpox were confirmed by blood testing - so If your mm says you had it you probably did and are immune.

The big concern would be if you went into labour early and your newborn was affected - that is only a tiny possibility .

Otherwise be reassured & enjoy the rest of your pregnancy .

Best wishes, Heather
