That's what I was thinking! If I was in a classroom right now, this would be easy peasy

lol.gif

I don't know whether to be sad for our future, or hopeful because they have you as a professor. I'll choose the latter.

So if I cant find anything else, I'll use what Ive got, but thought something more organic would be better.

Just look around Governor Walker's webpage here in Wisconsin.

My family can't get enough laughter over this one. I get a free subscription to her magazine and it arrived yesterday. First words out of Leah's mouth?

"Are there any recipes for families?"

Oh, oh,oh, I forgot about DS' homework last night:

It was multiple choice (that's really the big problem.  The grammar was irksome, the multiple choice homework fails to instruct):

"Circle the picture that has two less dogs than the first picture."

DS has now had his first lesson in countable vs non-countable quantities.

Kerc - that is hysterical!!!

Geo - oy....

Drama of the day - DD1, who is 8, left the house this morning in, what I felt, a totally inappropriate outfit (her black Irish dance shorts which are very short, and one of her black lacy undershirts). I threw a short sleeved sweater over her shoulders and she gave me the ultimate FU mom look before getting into my neighbor's car for school. So I drove to school, with an age appropriate outfit, found her at her locker, and made her change.

You are ABSOLUTELY right-on. I was at open house last night and open-mouthed at some of the clothing my kids' classmates are wearing. Oh my.

Jaygee~awesome mama move!!!

RR : increased running almost back on track on training schedule and foot hurts again, also some discomfort in other foot now. Also adding back in body weight work outs.

NR: 8yo having surgery Bec Tuesday on his finger and also needs to see a GI doc for his reflux. Sigh.

haha, Geo.  Totally unintentional correction!  Just started typing.

Kerc - I'm crying here over that magazine headline!

I find all manner of badly worded and straight out wrong sentences in the kids' worksheets all the time.  It's aggravating.  No wonder American schools suck!

RR: Going to Ironman night tonight.  It starts with mile repeats and then we get into fun stuff!

Oy, I borrow tons of library books on my kindle (mostly trashy romance novels bag.gif), and the editing is atrocious. I don't understand how they allow them to be published, some of them are so bad. I would be an awesome editor, if I knew how to break into such a thing. I did actually ponder it briefly when I was trying to figure out my career change, but had no idea how you would even go about getting into editing.

kerc, that is hilarious. And frightening. Why are people so afraid of the comma??? orngtongue.gif

mel~I'm kind of embarrassed to have them there in posterity, but my time for the mudathlon was 1:10:58 and my nationals time was 3:35:25.

I'm two out of three shifts into my work week, but I'm off until Friday night. I hate having one-off shifts, but oh well. I got to make time and a half working Labor Day night (I volunteered....I mean, seriously? Go in at 7pm on Labor Day and get time and a half? No brainer!), and we just found out that the board of directors approved our bonus for this year. joy.gif I thought at first that I might only get a partial amount, but I think I'll get the full amount, since I've been employed for over a year and it's based on your status as of March 30, which was full-time at that point. That will be a nice little chunk of change! Much needed, since I dropped a crapload of money on DS's ski and winter gear last week and our ski passes will be coming due this week. Not to mention the dental work I had the joy of having done this morning. I mean, I'm glad I have insurance now, but my insurance paid a whopping $137 of the $500+ bill for my two cavities. greensad.gif

Anybody done Invisalign or any other adult orthodontics? While fixing my cavities this morning, my dentist recommended Invisalign. I tend to agree that I need something, since my teeth have been gradually shifting and getting worse and worse for about 12 years. The problem is that my crappy insurance does not pay for ANY orthodontic work for adults and it would cost nearly $5000 (can be financed interest-free for 18 months). They have a special through the end of September for $300 off, but I really don't feel like I want to rush into it for barely 5% off.

17 miles on tap for the am. At least I have a running partner, but I'm already resigned to it being miserable...is that bad? redface.gif
post #32 of 245

JayGee, I agree. You done good.

sparkle, I think you've found plenty of errors by now. I had downloaded some book sample from iBooks and was so appalled by the editing that I deleted it. Just couldn't bring myself to read it.

Fighting the urge to just let it all drop and fall into a funk. Just thrown for some loops. Dh's travel situation, more bad health news in the family, mama drama is just totally off the rails, and what can I say? The yellow light of September in Wisconsin clearly is a cause of melancholia for me. So I am a bit of a mess. But back on the good food wagon a couple days (yes, just a couple) and I can already tell it's going to help. Also getting up early to walk/run AMs. School is starting to fall into--not exactly routine, but a comfortable pace, and I am feeling like we can do this. But I am bummed to be planning this party all on my own now, and angry that my mom's issues are making so many people's lives so much harder, and feeling a lot of other feelings, I suppose.

And I look at my FB feed and think I should just get my absentee voting stuff taken care of and get the heck out for a while. puke.gifOff to go clean up my feed. Or just back away slowly from FB for a while.

It will be all right.

Going back out tomorrow morning, hoping for 5-6 before starting on schoolwork. Hoping for a much better day tomorrow.

Although I haven't been posting much, I have been reading.  Most often I have a 2 yo draping herself over me while I read... makes it difficult to type.

Fall semester started - I've got 3 of my four classes with enough enrollment to go. The fourth class had enrollment drop below and so I'm teaching it as a directed study. means I take at least a 40% pay cut for that class assuming nobody else drops.  I'm looking for a few online teaching options for spring (my light semester). I'm also applying for non-teaching jobs that are within my career training.  Older kids started back to school 3 weeks ago and are mostly doing ok.  I do have a meeting with my oldest's teaching team tomorrow to work through some of his issues and hopefully make this year better for him.

RR: hitting a minimum of 10 miles a week, wanting time to do more.  Still doing the bootcamp class. switching out TRX for kettlebell.

Mel38 - I'm not going to do the Tri later this month - no new bike yet and I just can't bring myself to do another ride on the mountain bike. Can you take Iowa's Best Dam Tri off the list please? thanks.

Jo - hug2.gif and I totally hear you on the FB feed election stuff.

Gaye - if you figure out how to get into editing, let me know... plenty of work out there for both of us!  Congrats on the bonus!

Bec - Ironman night sounds like fun!

Kristina - I laughed when I read about your dd and read it to my dh.  We could totally see our dd1 doing the same thing - complete with the look.  Good job on the change of outfit for her.

Kerc - love the cover - a little cannibalism isn't a bad thing, is it?

Shanti - so glad that it is getting close to time for your ds to go to the epilepsy clinic. I hope they are able to help him.  And I hope now that you are done at the cafe (mostly) that you are able to get the other stuff on your plate taken care of.

Sparkle - I'm sure I could come up with many example for you from the homework sitting beside me, waiting to be graded.  Sometimes I find it hard to understand how certain students expect to succeed in college... between their poor grasp of grammar, atrocious spelling and even worse penmanship. yikes.

sparkle--here's another one. It's hysterical (if not for the fact that this man actually casts votes on behalf of my area!): http://www.coloradopols.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=18084. I have one other suggestion, but I've seen MDC pop up too much in google searches and don't want this post to show up. Suffice it to say it's someone who's writing for the examiner.com and spells kids, the plural, as kid's, every time. While criticizing the school district. It's one of many, many spelling errors, and that doesn't start with the factual ones. Her friend has been searching for me on FB and just sent me an email thanking me for blocking her on FB. This is mostly funny because I'm not on FB. But I did block her and anyone who seemed to be a friend of hers on twitter a few months back. whistling.gif

tjsmama--good luck with 17.

DM--I hate the class cuts. So sorry. Hope more pops up, for you and me both!

RR: none today, but it's a must tomorrow.

NRR: more craziness. Hoping tomorrow can be mostly calm.

Thanks Gaye - I've got those results in there.

Yay for a full bonus!! I don't know about the orthodontics. Did the dentist mention whether getting your teeth into better alignment would help keep them healthy in the long run? That was the clincher for me in getting my teeth fixed at 38. Quite an expense, but if it will help you keep your gums healthier in the long run, then maybe it is worth doing. Can you shop around for prices?

GORGEOSITY! I love the new Dingo adjective.

And ROTFLMAO.gifabout that magazine! Good stuff.

Jo hug.gif Sorry you are fighting off fall melancholia and uncertainty and no DH there to help with things. Your kids sound like they are doing really well with school.

I soooo agree with you on the FB thing, too. I might just not check any more until post-election. Some of the worst craziness on mine is from my own sis. greensad.gif I love her, but we have very different world views. For me, FB is social and not political. I like to look at pictures of friends, running inspiration, knitting ideas, fun music videos, cute pictures of dogs, cats, horses and babies of all sorts... but no thanks on the politics.

RR: 3 quick miles with DD this morning, then 2 slow, easy ones planned for tomorrow. Saturday is my trail half marathon. I am a little nervous, but plan to run it with my walk breaks, maybe a 4 minute to 1 minute run/walk ratio. It will probably put me at around 11:30 a mile, or about 2:30 overall. We'll see how it goes.

Hi. I've been lurking for a bit, but I wanted to introduce myself. I recently got into running. Assuming my evening goes well, I'll finish the last day of the fourth week of Couch to 5K. I'm thinking about doing a Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving, but I've never done a walk/run previously, and I'm not sure exactly what to expect. The gear check thing kind of intimidates me. Actually, you all kind of intimidate me, but I'm hoping it'll rub off. Nice to meet you all!

So, somehow, Ironman night included a run.  This is what happens when I am told at 5:30am to show up somewhere the next day in running clothes.  I stumbled onto a 2 mile assessment run!  So, 1 mile warmup, followed by 2 miles as fast as I could (which was a sad 21:30).  I'm still a little confused, as this is part of a running class that I was never in, never paid for, and is almost done! LOL.  I'm just going to look at it as 3 miles done and move on!lol.gif  Spin class this early morning, and plan to take my stinky dog for a walk in a bit.

He's stinky because he managed to have a run in with a skunk last night.  nono.gif

Jo - hug2.gif

Mel - Could you take the 5kayak race off the list for me?  It was not advertised well, and they had super low enrollment, and had to cancel it.  I'm bummed.

Welcome!!

On FB - when there is an election in the US I skim my FB posts carefully. I have a lot of American friends and while I care, I just can't get bogged down in your politics! Mostly I just keep my eyes open for cute kid pics smile.gif

Jo - sorry you are on your own for such a long stretch. It is good to hear how you and your kids are settling into school.

Real - I hope today is off to a good start.

Nic - how are you feeling? Has the filing cabinet eased some of your stress? hug2.gif

I don't know what it is but I am exhausted. I have been mostly taking it easy all week but I think I feel worse instead of better! Maybe it is the detoxing thing as I get back on track eating wise but I don't remember it being this bad last time. I could sleep all day if I didn't have the day partially booked. I hope this passes soon.

I think my freezer has just about reached its limit - I got the last of the blackberries and tomatoes in this morning and I think there is just enough room left for some garlic and that is it. My house is almost under control again too after the summer. I spent a full hour in the girls' room yesterday, mostly pitching stuff. I was very glad to discover that their bedroom floor wasn't just a rumour, there really was one down there! Best and most relaxing part of yesterday was pulling out my Cricket loom and weaving an alpaca scarf for this winter in my favourite colours. It is drying now and I am thrilled with it AND with having the time to sit down and just do something creative like that.

I don't think you will need to worry too much about a gear check with a turkey trot run :)  I remember being nervous, too, but it's really not so bad.  Show up, pin you number on, tie the chip on your shoe lace if it's chip timed and line up toward the middle or back of the group (depending on what your pace tends to be by then... I'm guessing you're not running a 5-6 minute mile just yet).  And most importantly have FUN!

Shanti - I've been really wore out too...and I hate the political ads. I'm sorry, but something on facebook, or a commercial is not really going to inform me and if it does...well we're in trouble folks.

My son cracked me up this morning...he's 5, but I'm going through first grade math.  So I draw a bowl with three apples and tell the story of going to the store and buying two more apples.... After I'm done he says, "okay mom, let me do something" takes the notebook and proceeds to write 2x2, solve it...then 10x10...solve it with minimal help.  Aaaaahh.

My daughter continues to gather friends like bees to honey, while my son...whom I am working hard to find more kids to hang with...I can't.  He's awesome people! Funny as all get out, loyal to a fault, articulate, and obviously smart.  Maybe that comes with time. He's not too stressed, but I am. I see my dd's friends and she's so blessed. I want him to have that too.

Running nowhere near as much, I have aches and pains on my aches and pains.
