I feel silly even asking this, but can I make wool soakers with a regular (non-serging, non-ballpoint needle or special attachments) sewing machine? I really want some newborn wool, don't knit, and thought the upcycled sweater tutorial seemed straightforward enough for me to follow. But IDK if I even have the right "tools" at my disposal. I can zig-zag, lol...

I don't do complicated sewing, can you tell? blush.gif

First Kelly you are amazing! So jealous!

Rae - I think so. You might try a double needle tho - makes sewing knitted fabrics so much easier. Most regular machines can handle it. Otherwise just use a zig zag stitch.

These are great! I made some baby leggings using this pattern and they turned out wonderfully:

I also made some Wool Soakers (hooray for 100% wool J Crew sweaters at Goodwill for $2!):

With both of these, the first time it was trickier getting everything figured out, but after doing it once it was a breeze!

Rae, if the wool is felted (even just partially felted) you don't need any special needles or machine.  I make stuff out of lightly felted wool sweater all the time and any stitch will work.  Just double stitch - go over it twice, with some space in between the first row of stitches so that it's reinforced.

I did some final sewing projects this weekend and finished them up today. Thought I'd share:

Wool nursing pads - I used an old wool sweater on the back and needle felted some wool batting on the inside so I could make it thicker in the center. I'm very proud that I made them sort of nipple shaped!

My latest baby gown for my baby! All our babies will be born in the Chinese year of the Dragon - which I think is super cool. So here is for our dragon baby!

Some baby legs made from some of my old socks that had holes or I didn't wear!

Sewed this pouch and filled it with flax seeds and some dried lavender from my moms garden. I'm going to make more of these little "hotties" for friends who are pregnant!

I've been making a ton of these onesies to give away. I'm using scrap fabrics to appliqué onto upcycled onesies and then hand stitching. The rabbit is my fav but I also have a fish, whale, heart, star, and 4 leaf clover. (Sorry pic is upside down)

Alaskanne - I've been doing the applique on upcycled onsies too! They've been mostly for gifts and I haven't taken photos of them. I should have, some are really cute.

Anyway, I love what you've made!
