Hello!!!

Welcome to our new forum!!!

So my goals for this wk are:
5 runs-only did 3 last wk
Bike to work for everyshift.
and walk the dogs on all my days off....(today included)

I'm sticking with 150 s/u/day and 30 p/u per day....
My stomach kills after 3 sets of 50!!!
I'm doing my fitness pin at work next week!!!They are testing everything...I think I'll fail the p/u...but I'll go down trying!!!!

Happy trails all!!!

My goals:

Run 4-5 times, at least 3 of them 35 minutes without stopping.
Bike each day to work
140 situps/day
45 pushups/day (15 of them "boy")

I already did this yesterday -- running 37 minutes and doing the situps and pushups. It was my first run in the heat (though only ~75) and my body reacted in a strange manner. My hands and feet were huge when I got home. I guess my body was trying its darndest to get rid of heat.

Oh, and when I was at the hotel, the weight room had a scale. I've lost ~5 pounds since my annual exam in November. I figure I've lost more than that in padding, since I can see I've gained muscle. Most importantly, I've clearly gained heart and lung capacity, and my resting heartrate has come down 10-15 beats per minute.

Thistle -- ditto what ms said about the jogging stroller. I found a great aluminum frame one on ebay for $70 last year. Add in shipping, and it was still less than what I could buy around here for a steal frame stroller.

Happy running folks!

I'm not running this morning only because af is kicking my butt. The worst one since I gave birth a year and a half ago! TMI I know....sorry.

But my goals for the week are to run 5x again, total of 170minutes. Yoga on Saturday. I walk so much I don't really include that in my working out.

I also plan on starting to look for a race to enter.

You all are running so fast it's amazing! I'm running probably 11 maybe 12 minute miles right now. As I get my distance up I'll try to speed that up.

Hi Mamasoleil and Geofizz! I came to find the new thread and see you two are in this forum.

Last week was rotten for me. I thought dd was getting better on Friday but it was just a lull before the GI storm on Saturday. DH and Dd were sick as dogs on Saturday - ugh! It was nasty. Dh is better and dd is getting there. I think dd picked up a bug over easter weekend and passed it to dh. Somehow I have remained unaffected (whew!). But, my running for last week was all screwed up. We ended up moving our weekend trip to my brother's to a weekend in May so no run with my SIL. I ran Sunday, Tuesday and Friday last week. At least the Friday run was 4.2 miles.

The 8k race is this Saturday so I'll try to run but not waste my legs before Saturday. Goal is:

Two or three runs before Saturday of 3-4 miles each; Saturday race 5 miles.

MS - you are doing so great! I read the end of the thread from last week. Your progress is amazing!

Geo - sounds like the interview went well. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Happy running.

Hey all-
I'd going well with the exercise...thanks to all of you! It helps so much to have y'all to check in with regularly!

Last week I stuck with my goal and exercised 5x (M-F). And I even went beyond my goal and exercised Saturday and Sunday too! Hurray!!

My gym membership expired last week. I'm going to try this week to go it on my own. If I can't motivate, I'll get back to the gym next week.

Here's my goals:
yoga:3x
walk:3x (30mins each)
weight-lifting: 5x, 400 reps/day
bike ride: 1-2x

I'm so impressed with all you ladies out there RUNNING. That's fabulous! I've never been a runner but I admire you who do it!!

Have a good week everybody!
Chrissy

Hey, who said how fast we're going? Personally, I think I'm running a 10 minute mile based on how long it takes me to run the loop at the local park. However, when I ran on the treadmill in the hotelm it said I was going at a 13:25 pace. That, plus the fact that FOX News was on with no way to change it was just insulting to the core. The second day I headed outside to run instead.

Hey there. I did say I think I'm runnning 7-8mph...
That's because yesterday, I ran 4.4 miles, it took me 42 mins, but I walked for 4...so I think I'm doing good mileage...but I'm only guessing... I can't see myself running any faster than Wendy!!!

Schatz, thank you so much! It's the new running shoes, I tell ya!!! I'm sorry your family has been so sick!!! Ds has also been super sick...he's only 8 mts old, and he's been throwing up, now, diarea (sp?) has set in...I feel so bad for him!!!!
That's why I also, only got 3 runs in last wk!!!!!
Spiralchrissy~you can do it without a membership!!! I am! Go for it girl!!!!

Keep moving!

My goals this weeks are:
run 3 min/walk 3 min x 5 at least five days a week
50 situps a day
10 pushups a day
any other walking I can fit in, it is hard, I live half an hour from town, so I spend a lot of time in the car.

But I ran this morning! It was my first day of run 3/walk 3, and I can tell I'm definitely getting more in shape, but running up hills I still feel like I'm lugging a little. It is so beautiful here today, our high today is 74 F I love spring. I really have to appreciate it now, because black fly season starts in a few weeks. I think I'll need to get dd a bug suit to protect her skin.

You are all so inspiring , and I hope all your sick little ones get better soon.

Ok, that is fast. I ran a 7.5 minute mile back in high school, but that was a long time ago. I read recently that the way to speed up is to concentrate on wearing out your shoes in the big toe first -- that is, emphasize pushing off with your big toe. I tried it one day a few weeks ago and I felt like I was sprinting. It was simply too fast for me.

In a world of tortoises and hares, I'm definitely a tortoise, with shoes most worn in the heel.

to geofizz

can i join in? I'm kristin...I have a 17month old daughter and I'm still +20lbs from prebaby. My goals really are not to loose all the weight, just to firm up the belly and to get into better shape. In the winter I XC ski and I used to bike. My dd hates her bike helmet, so running it is!
Hiya Kristin! Welcome. Better be careful -- we're gonna push you to run and you're gonna love it. It's been great to deal with all my stress.

Well, then, I'm sure I"m not running that fast....
I would like to find out though...
I guess once I'm running straight, with no walking, I'll have a better idea...
I did time myself yesterday, and it took me 7mins to run 1km...so a km is shorter than a mile, so i'm sure not running no 7 minute mile....:
I just feel like I'm running really fast....yeah..that's it....

I had an AWESOME day! I waited until DH got home from work so I could go without dd. I did 30 mins, running 2 walking 3. I was able to run the full 2 mins all 6 times for a total of 12 mins!!!

OK, I'm not breaking any records here, but it was great for me. I am about 60 lbs overweight. I feel like a new person!

I ate really cleanly today too, so I feel extra good! Now if I can just stay away from those peanut butter Clif bars!

Also, I talked to my neice and she is going to let me borrow her jogging stroller!!

I am keeping with the times for my walkiing program and just adding in running for the first 30 mins of any scheduled walk.

Goals for the week-
M 30 mins run 2/walk3 x 6 --DONE!
W 30 mins walk on the trail with stroller - maybe some running if I can
Sat 60 mins run 2/walk3 x6 plus 30 mins walk - I may try to do this on Fri b/c Sat is DD's birthday party. Hopefully no stroller!

I also have a goal to eat better, but that is a different thread!

Thistle -- That's awsome! Keep it up!

One comment -- maybe you can make the running minutes 5-35 instead? You should probably give your body a few minutes to warm up before running. It would be a shame to make all this progress only to end up with an injury.

I hope you end up with a stroller solution that works for you. I know that those times I run without the stroller are so much easier than with. It seems odd until I add up the weight. Geez, I'm pushing a 20 pound stroller, a 20 pound kid, about 16 toys, a sippy and a bag of crackers. No wonder I'm tired! Oh yeah, the running probably contributes as well.

No running today -- 50+ mph winds. I'm dedicated, not crazy.

no exercising here---> minor pity party ahead --> had a crummy, crummy work day. I'm a phd student and had a "this is your future" kinda chat with my advisor. Good in the sense that I finally spent some time actually talking with her, but bad in the sense that she brought up some issues that have been in the back of my mind for a while but I'm not sure I wanted to find. Then I came home to a rejection letter for a grant that many many graduate students get -- you have basically a better than 50% chance. This was my second time submitting and second time with a rejection. (and this added to the earlier conversation).

I live about 2 minutes walk from this nice park with like 18km of trails for running. So i took the stroller over there and it was a mud bog. turned around, came home and ate brownies

Geofizz- Thanks for the concern (and the encouragement). I did do about 4 mins of walking before I ran, but didn't count that in my workout. I also had been running around the yard with dd before that, so I was pretty warmed up. It was 6:30 in the evening when I went , but I will definitely have to remember to switch it around when I do mornings (walk first, then run). The last time I tried running I would be SOOO tight in the mornings and I would always try to just jump out of bed and run. I didn't get an injury, but I defintely wasn't doing it right. Actually, when I was running my best, I would get up and do 30 mins of yoga before I ran.

Geo - you had the winds that we had on Sunday. It was wicked. As we used to say when we were racing our sailboat "it was blowing stinko sh%t"

kerc -- sometimes the brownies are just what is needed! It sounds like the stars just weren't line up for you yesterday. Here's to a better day today

So... I did not run last night (monday) but did run this morning - about 3.5 miles. I was definitely plodding but it felt good. I figure I'll shoot for running today, Wed and Thursday and then the race on Saturday.

Ug. I HATE those talks. In Berkeley, I'd go to a French-Cambodian restaurant for lamb chops after those discussions with my advisor. Too bad there's nothing that good here, as mostly I resort to ice cream.

Chin up, throw yourself into washing glassware for a day and dive back in.

I hope your trails dry out soon.

Thistle -- I'm glad to hear you're warming up. Count those 4 minutes of walking in your totals!

Cheers to all.

Woo Hoo I got out there and did it today! I'm still wore out from sunday's run...it was really hot and I ran for a long time. Then when I got home dh and I went hiking with dd in the pack (started out with dh, she didn't like that so back to mama) and I think I over did it a bit. Cause I was still tired this morning (could be AF too though). It was definitely mental today...I had to convince myself the whole time to complete my goal (40 minutes).

So four more times this week. Next week I want to add a little speed training. All I want to do is maybe within my run do 5 one minute faster paced segments. I hope that made sense. It's the only way I've ever been able to get my speed up. I run so darned slow, but that seems to help. I just want to be sure I'm comfortable in my base. So, it may be next week or the week after. I'll know better after this week.

Hey any of you ever have trouble with joint pain in the hips? Pain is too strong of a word, more like discomfort. I never had that before I had dd and wondered if it was a side effect? It's dissipating now, but for a few days there I just had an ache.

schatz - I hate those days where I have all the good intentions in the world but the world is against me! Brownies sound good...mmmmm maybe I should make some. Kick butt on your race Saturday....is it mostly pavement, trails, etc?
