We had a new girl join our religious school class today and I thought her name was Isabella but it's Isobella! Ee-so-bella. I don't know if I'd use it myself but, it's kinda cool!

How do you say Fielden?
nstewart, hopefully Juliette works out, second cousins can definitely have the same name!
Still no middle names here yet, but we have lots of time to decide that so I'm not that worried about it.post #163 of 2612/8/13 at 8:25amQuote:I had a youth in one of my programs once named Isobelle - she was Filipino. Pronounced EYE-so-bell. Loved it.

I love Juliette too, and Isobelle also. We have two close friends with those names though and my dh likes very unique names, he a tough one.
I had my first due date club dream. I didn't even know it was a dream until a few days after. It was about FarmerMomma. In real life I was thinking, wow so cool she found such an awesome name and both of them are on my list. We must be very similar.
And then is dawned on me that I hadn't read the name thread in a while.
The name was Jasper Reed and I remember thinking, I love that name but what about Walden Oak? I love Oak.
Haha, funny for me. Thats name is on our boy list though.

We've been having a tough time with names. I really liked Jameson (Jamie for short) and still do, but am worried that people would immediately think of crappy whiskey. :P My husband loves Quinn, but I'm not entirely sold on it. One, it was a name we'd picked out for Maddox and then nixed a few months later. I don't really want to use a name we rejected before for a new baby. Then there's the fact that it's becoming more popular and is more common for girls than boys. I also would rather do a two or three syllable name that has nickname possibilities. My name is Kara and so I never had a nickname. Maybe that's why I like nicknames. Haha!
Anyway, my current favorite is Malcolm. I'm hoping it'll grow on my husband...and that by the time that it would matter, most people have forgotten about Malcolm in the Middle!

Do any of you ladies know of any boys named Archie?

Nah, I wouldnt worry about the Malcolm in the Middle connection. What's the nickname for Malcolm?
post #169 of 2612/9/13 at 5:29pmOh, LJ, I forgot about Jasper Dale! I loved Road to Avonlea as well, we watched it every Sunday night when I was a kid. Makes me think of a cozy fire, cuddling with my parents, and eating bread pudding. lol.
Philsbabymom, I'd already forgotten about Malcom in the Middle! But then, I never watched it...And I think I have to officially put your name on my list. Kara is beautiful.

i found this.. http://www.gaelicnames.co.uk/default.htm im looking into gaelic names (my heritage is mostly cornish/scottish and bfs is mainly cornish/irish) so it seemed like a good place to look as the name ive chosen i just keep being not sure about.. anyway they have some interesting names there.. :)
post #173 of 2612/10/13 at 10:17amAs for Malcom, don't forget Captain Mal (Malcom) from Firefly/ Serenity. Definitely good associations.
My great grandfather was named Archibald, but went by Archie. I called him Daddy Arch. Great man. Cary Grant was born Archibald Alexander Leach. Apparently he was called Archie before changing his name for acting.
Jasper is a nice name, too. It just makes me think of the town in Indiana near where I used to live. :-)post #174 of 2612/10/13 at 12:12pm- Loogiejane

I love looking at names and talking about them and my dh and I have pretty much known our name picks since before I was pregnant (the first time:) Back when I worked at a bookstore I found a baby names that was slightly damaged and marked off 75 percent, which combined with my staff discount meant it was only a couple bucks. So, I bought it and dh and I went through it mostly joking around at first, but it lead to us picking out what eventually became our son's name. (Nikola after Nikola Tesla) His middle name is a family one, my Granny's (dad's mom) maiden name which is Lawson. So this time we figured if we had another boy we could use dh's Grammie's (his dad's mom) maiden name, Hamilton. It also happened to be one of the few names that went with the name my dh was determined to use for a boy, Z'ev:) But, since it looks like we are having a girl, then we will go with the name I have been planning on for a while now, Fernlea. Then her middle names will be Beatrix (after my mom) and Day (after Dorothy Day)

Does anyone has advice on having people NOT call the child a nn? DD is going to be Calliope, I've called her Callie here and there, but it isn't something I want people to get used to calling her, but my MIL won't call her anything but Callie after I accidentally said it around her
. I don't want her to go by nicknames often until she's established and known her name, my son is Sylas, and he has overheard Sy and Sy Sy his whole life that he introduces himself as those and won't listen to Sylas, I don't want a repeat!post #177 of 2612/10/13 at 5:21pm- FarmerMomma

That's hilarious. I don't care if you use it actually. Boyfriend asked if we need to trademark it. But I think he's more on board with the name now. Hilarious.
Alaskan momma - no advice on nick names other than maybe just accept it. My son is Zeus and I thought no one would ever call him Zeusy because it's just too ironic. But that is totally lost on other kids and when he's the youngest how can you not call him Zeusy? Nicknames happen. If you find a bullet proof defense you can write a book.post #178 of 2612/10/13 at 5:29pm- PhilsBabyMama

Looks like we've settled on Jameson.
Now on to the middle name.
Not sure about how to nickname proof names. We both liked Donovan, but the very real possibility of ending up with a kid called Don or Donny put us off of it. :Ppost #179 of 2612/10/13 at 5:30pmLoving the "Walden"s- we live ten minutes from Walden Pond and I am a huge fan.
We are having a tough time with names. It's a girl (or so we were told!) and I'm just not having any clear favorites. With DD we knew at 8wks and never looked back. I keep thinking I'll know when I see her ... I lean towards nature-based, original, vintagey names, especially if they connote gentleness or the like ... but I'm not sure! It's irritating! I want to name this sweetie pie!
post #180 of 2612/10/13 at 8:12pmAlaskamomma, for nicknames, I don't know....DS is Duncan, and I don't like Dunc or Duncaroo, I want him to be Duncan. So, I just make a point to ALWAYS call him Duncan, to introduce him as Duncan, etc. I haven't had to correct anyone yet, and don't know if I'd go that far. If a nickname bothers him as he gets older, he can do that.
