Childproofiing « Back to Group Discussions

Oh my goodness! Electric cords in mouth, toppling coffee tables, fingers near fans, finger cut from the baseboard heater frame...ahhhhh! And this is what happens when I'm almost right on top of him! I'm going a little nut-so over here. I have to literally follow him for a few hours spread throughout the day while he crawls and cruises around now! I'm burning out a lot quicker than I expected! 

Anyone ever use one of those 6-8 panel play yards? Any feedback? I'm so anti-playpen but this kid takes the cake. He's getting into everything and he's FAST! My girls just kind dilly-dallied around me at this age. E will be across the room in 5 seconds pulling himself to a stand on something (usually unstable) and he's crashing into stuff left and right and my adrenaline is going up and down with all the accidents! He got 3 bruises on his face today alone---just from standing up on something (in this case, something stable) and crashing into it on the way down. I need some suggestions before I go

Oh I forgot to mention that my DH's heartburn pill was on the floor today too  I about ripped his face off (but nicely!). How am I going to keep this house baby-proofed when I live with a bunch of bohemians!

No advice, but I'm right there in the same boat with you, and my DD is my only!

I feel as if I can't baby proof our apartment all that well because of design (strange small doorways that gates won't adhere to, radiators ALL OVER the place- as in I can see 6 from where I'm sitting). She is also very fast and is now standing/pulling up all the time.

Today in the span of 25 seconds she pulled her little rocking seat over to our standing fan, climbed in it and stood up, and was reaching up for the blades! 

well that makes me feel a little better! It's crazy making! E was standing up against a box fan while I was calming down after finding a cord in his mouth. I was rambling on and on to DH about how much I freaked out about the cord! I look down at E and he's standing against the box fan which was blowing on DH while he exercised on the elliptical machine. I just about fainted....seriously! My nerves are shot! Luckily, the fan is made so no little fingers can reach the blade but I didn't know that at the time!

Well, we ordered a play yard for him. That's the only way I can make a meal or do some dishes. I found it helpful to keep a basket of toys and safe household objects in each room for him to keep busy! I've also lowered my expectations and shortened my to-do lists. I spend a lot of time just hanging out on the floor with him these days! This too shall pass!
