My 5yo daughter stepped on a rusty nail

Today while playing outside, my 5yo daughter stepped on a rusty nail.  It went in a bit and then we squeezed it to bleed it out.  Do you think we should be bringing her in for a shot?  She is unvaccinated.  Also, how long do we have until we have to bring her in?  Our family doctor isn't in until Monday.  I would rather not bring her to emerg and wait for hrs and have a doctor lecture me on not vax'ing.  Thanks.

Sorry I missed your question earlier.  How did she end up doing?

We ended up bringing her to the doctors.  He said he wouldn't be worried but gave us some penicillin just in case.  She is fine now.  Thank you.

What do you suggest we do should this happen again?

Tetanus is so rare (only about 1 young child each year in the U.S.) that I rarely recommend tetanus shots for an injury in unvaxed kids. I'd only do it for really deep, dirty, outdoor wounds.
