MO or KS?? Natural birth and homeschooling easier in Missouri or Kansas? Need to move...

Hi there,

I am currently looking around western Missouri and eastern Kansas for somewhere to move immediately with cheap rent that is safe as well.  However, I am pregnant and plan to homeschool and am trying to decide whether Missouri or Kansas is more 'crunchy' for homebirths (lay midwives or CPM or even UC) and homeschooling.  Is it fairly easy to have a natural birth and find non-vax or delayed vax-friendly docs in western MO?  Are they open to attachment parenting there?

Any Missouri mamas believe Missouri is better for us?

I need to find a place for us to live NOW and am overwhelmed on which is the better choice - I do NOT want to end up with another horrible hospital birth experience like I did in my previous state and I don't want to worry about defending my legal right constantly to homeschool.  I am a single mama and feel VERY vulnerable right now, in case it is not obvious.  I will be working from home but right now money is VERY tight so even affordable small towns within 20-40 minutes driving distance to 'civilization' but still safe would be great!

Hey- first off, take a deep breath, it's all going to work out!  I live in Kansas City MO and there is a great group of women here who are pro homeschooling, home birth, etc.  If you google Kansas City Attachment Parenting, it'll take you to the web page.  You have to request to join, but the ladies there have been VERY helpful (I'm a first time parent).  I'm planning a hospital birth with a midwife.  She seems great and very pro natural birth/ whatever I end up wanting to do.  I know several of the hospitals in the area have midwifes.  There are also a couple birth centers- I think there is one on the MO side and one on the KS side.  I can't really help you with the homeschooling aspect, but I know the attachment parenting group has several ladies who home school- they may be able to help you better than I can.

As far as KS goes, I know Lawrence is pretty crunchy and I think there are home birth midwives there, but I'm not as familiar with the area.  It's about 45 minutes from Kansas City, so you're still pretty close to a "city" (although Lawrence has a lot to do as well).
