What were your previous heart rates at about that time? I'm so anxious to see if I'm having a boy or girl... But I also dont want to know!
fetal heart rate
So here is my understanding of the heart rate "old wives' tale."
"Research" has indicated that it is exactly that -- an old wives' tale. Controlled studies say there is no correlation. That being said, every midwife I know says that with some exceptions that is the only old wives' tale they seem to notice some truth to, and in my Nov 07 ddc we did an informal poll (and it was a pretty big group) and for the most part it was right for the vast majority, which I thought was interesting. That being said, you can only really tell late in gestation. At this time, almost all fetus' heart rates are super high. It's in the third tri where you really start to see the shift. So for example, both my kidlets had high heart rates the entire time (although my daughter's was super high -- like low 180s -- at the very start) and then it was only at the end that we noticed my son's dropped to under 140.
