stupid television shows!

rant warning, proceed with caution

I rarely watch cable, but its fun once in awhile.  Or it used to be.

So I sit down with DH last night, and we watch one of those mindless sci-fi shows, something 13 something.  The premise of magicy objects, I can swallow.  THat the government is smart enough to hide them all, okay, fine.  Even that these things show up on people's doorsteps via FedEx, whatever, its all supposed to be a fake world.

C'mon, if the storyline is going to go way out, at least you should make the characters believable.  Not a single person acted in a way that seemed normal, even within the context of the show.  If the premise is that the magicy objects can control you (and make you be mad, or see things for example), then why would a vision of a person acting mad being so darn worrisome?  Why worry about that person, when, for every other angry/mad/crazy/tired/sick/sleepy person in the show, they assume its a magicy object?  And furthermore, if tehy've been at this artifact hunt for years and years (and several seasons of shows), why do all the hunting/agent people act like its so freaky wierd every time they find one?   Or why would anyone think that dooming a person to death is going to save them from being doomed to death?   How is destrying stuff going to help stop the destruction of said same exact stuff?  Lets just say it got old about halfway through.  Seriously, if you want me to watch cable, tv companies, you're going to have to do better.  In 2013, since I am probably not going to watch anything like this again until then.  Unless DH is watching it, and then I will be back to rant again.

As someone else said, pregnany really lowers your BS tolerance level.

I mistakenly turned the Mike Meyers "Cat in the Hat" movie on while trying to cook dinner last night, and it was AWFUL!!!  I couldn't believe it!  I am not a prude, or super strict on what my 3 yr old dd watches, but that was terrible. Of course, right away, she says, "This movie is cool."

It is amazing that there are hundreds of channels to watch now a days and it is nearly impossible to find anything good on any of them.  We don't watch a ton of TV but I do enjoy a watching a good show. Good luck finding one.  I remember the good ol' days when TLC, the History Channel, and Discovery actually had quality programing.  Now it is nothing but bad reality television.

That would be another reason why we don't have a TV....

I am looking forward to Tues shows on Fox.  I hope none of them end up on this list :)

We don't have TV either, but there are plenty of stupid books for which I don't have any patience either...

My husband and I are active in community theater (although we're going to be taking a hiatus of some years with the little guy or gal), and this is the third year I've been a judge for a one-act play contest. I've definitely become more discerning in terms of which plays I'm recommending for final consideration. Maybe television networks should hire expectant moms to help decide upon programming!

Dh and I watched the pilot for some show where all the power on Earth has gone out.  Dh fell asleep during it and I was just pissed that everyone was skinny with perfect hair.  Really?  I couldn't deal with it, it really pissed me off, to protect my blood pressure I won't be watching taht show.

faithstuff, the tv skinny madness is getting out of hand.  What I would normally dismiss as a fun mindless tv show is now sooo annoying to me because of that (not the one where all the power is gone, the one where the two mom scientists magically wandilly figure out whodunit for the FBI while taking care of the babies).  No one is that skinny after the baby unless they have five people helping them.  One to do the laundry, one to keep the house, one to care for the kid, one physical trainer, and one personal chef to make her perfectly balanced meals from scratch.  Which if you have the money, have fun.  Me, I know those are actresses and the least they could do is cast people who have normal mom figures for new mom characters.

simonez2u, I would love to find a good programm from any of those channels.  Reality tv is so boring!  They have a stock of characters that they just line up every season and knock down in turn.  We have found one entertaining reality tv show, not because its actually related to fashion or real life, but because my pregnant self just can't help but laugh when the judge sees a jacket (that looks ALOT like a plain fall coat that I own), and say, "its not fashion, its not normal, its just BIZARRE" (with wonky music to go along with).  Its the hysteric unrealism that makes a few reality tv shows palatable.

MrsKoehn, we don't have a tv either.  But not only does everyone else, the internet has waaay more tv veiwing options than is healthy.  Plus youtube, so you can watch last week's episode at the same time if you want.

Okay I am finally excited about watching something on television.  New Girl season premiere comes on tonight and I can't wait to veg out in front of the tv.  While some may not agree, I think it is hilarious and always fun to watch.

Me too!  We love New Girl!  Our goal is to have ds in bed by then, hubby is already working on ds' dinner to take to the park and wear him out :)  So the goal is park, bathtime and bed, if we time it well, we can have all that done by 8.  Fingers crossed.
