I'm just getting worried I'm not going to have much strength for this labor. I have *not* been exercising. Bad.

I was getting a bit concerned about this as well. I have had to be pretty immobile due to my ongoing pelvic/back problems combined with the lovely vulvar varicosities (which are absolute contraindications for any kind of squatting). At 25.5 weeks, I hurt now about as much as I did at the end of my last pregnancy (when I was carrying a 10.5 lb babe inside!), and I have barely gained 12 lbs so far this pregnancy.

Because I can't walk for exercise, I just started going to the pool for water exercise. It is wonderful! While in the water, my belly doesn't weigh me down. However, I feel like I weigh a million pounds when I get out of the pool and gravity takes over again. So for now, it is me and the senior ladies, bouncing around in the pool to oldies music ;)

I think its important to listen to ur body. And if u have been doing strenght squats all along I don't think continuing willl hurt...but I ne er do more than 20 w/ breaks... they do feel great and relive the pain! My husband and I are going to make a how to squat in pregnancy video. I will link u guys when its made (hopefully this weekend sometime)

Oh yes the pool is wonderful for almost all aligments!

I am so jealous of your pool time, I need to get off my butt and get to one!

Pool sounds great. Why oh why did I sign DS up for ice skating lessons instead of swimming? Can we do ice skating homework in the pool?

lisathena - I will use your video! I so need anything that will help my hips, I am struggling with hips & sleep, maybe squats will help. I haven't done too many lately, but should.

I've always heard that it is good to squat while pg, esp since it is a good pushing position (which I couldn't hold in my last labor cuz I didn't do any damn squats while pg!). Anywho, thanks for the reminder and I'll be doing them now that I've had this little think.

Amen to that!  They got out the squat bar at the hospital and I was like "ugh.  I'm tired."

Lately the only thing getting me to the gym has been thinking about how I don't want to be out of shape for labour!  I feel like I need to go more, and that I need to focus more on cardio, but I'm not terribly out of shape or anything.

I would agree to be careful with weighted squats if you haven't been doing them up until now.  You don't want to put your pelvis or pubic bone out of alignment.  A good alternative to active squats would be doing Godess Pose.  We do this in my prenatal yoga class every class, and various variations of it.  I do weighted squats all the time at the gym and still find holding the pose challenging because it's being held, not moving through squats, if that makes sense, so it would certainly strenghthen those muscles!

I haven't been keeping up with this thread because I haven't taken a "bump" photo since before Christmas, and don't like to be reminded!  Yikes!!!  Sheepish.gif  Maybe this weekend...

Thanks for these links! I've been looking for more ways to integrate squatting into my practice. Love how it makes my butt/thighs/pelvis feel.

This is pretty neat! It is hard to believe how big these babes are already! In my head, I picture her so much smaller. It's no wonder it feels so 'full' in there.

I know!! Baby is deep in my pelvis so I often 'show' less, although she's always a very definite shape (especially when I'm lying down.) It's amazing to see how big she actually is. They made a copy of this picture for us and I hung it on our bulletin board for a visual reminder- DD and DH both thought it was really cool  :)  Especially when you compare week to week!

I'm nearly at 28 and last week the apps said baby was 15 inches long.. I can feel him hitting my cervix and my lungs/ribs all at once but still .. I got a tape measure out to invisage 15 inches and its bloody huge!! I'm still getting comments from people because I don't show much atall suggesting I'm starving myself or my baby's not growing .. At my last mw appointment I was measuring 1.5 cm ahead annnd I've put on over 20lbs.. Grr!! I think this is why I'm so desperate to just have a ginormous belly to shut people up!! :P
