Altering medical scrubs for maternity?

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone has experience altering medical scrub tops for maternity.

I'm a nurse at a hospital with a pretty strict uniform policy, and I don't want to buy a ton of over-sized or maternity scrub tops.

I have several that are on the old/dingy side... wearable, but it wouldn't be awful to throw them away after baby comes. I was going to experiment with slitting them up the sides and adding some stretchy fabric in an inverted-V shape... any thoughts? I know the front will fall higher than the back, but I can't think of any way to fix that (aside from hemming the back).

Any advice or suggestions would be MUCH appreciated!

TIA,
Lisa

I think the inverted V is a good idea.  What if you used an old top to get the Vs rather than a knit?  Also, you could add length to the front by having a strip connecting the two Vs.  Sorta like this:  /\____/\

Best of luck!

The link to the tutorials I used should be there.

I used a pair of my regular pants, and a large size top
