My doctor is using March 17th as my due date, too.  But I'm telling people late March.  My birthday is on March 13, pretty sure I won't deliver on that day (seems too early).  My dad's birthday is late March and he said I can give birth to his first grandchild on that day, if I'd like winky.gif.  His sister was born on his birthday (when he was 4) so he's used to sharing his birthday with family.

Lana's a great name!  My BFF is named Lana and we've known each other since birth.  Her parents set up my parents on a blind date.  They just celebrated their 33rd anniversary last week. stillheart.gif

My great grandfather's birthday was actually March 17th, so it'd be neat if this baby could share it with him, though I'm honestly hoping for something closer to April.

That's so funny. This will be the third Lana I've heard of in the past few months, when I didn't hardly know anyone who shared the name beforehand (aside from the usual Hollywood references. ;) )

Hello!  I have been persuaded by my sister, jodieanneanton, to join this DDC since my DP and I are due 2 days before her on March 7.  My DP, Lydia, is carrying and this is our first.  We got a BFP the second month of trying, which we were not expecting, but of course hoping for.  we thought it would take a long long time.  We used a known donor (I believe this abbrev is KD).  It is very important to us that our child know the donor and the role he had in helping us create him/her.  He will have sort of a god fatherly role.

We are hitting 19 weeks today and will be getting u/s in couple of weeks and most certainly finding out the gender because we are soo excited and too impatient to wait.  We were originally hoping to do birthing center, but through insurance it is not covered and we really want our current doctor, who is amazing to deliver.  She is 100% focused on natural births.  Right now we are looking into birthing plans.  It's between hypnobirthing and bradley method.

Other than that a few things about myself and DW...We proudly live in Detroit, MI.  We are part of an intentional community known as the Jeanie Wylie Community (jeaniewyliecommunity.blogspot.com).  We are apart of Detroit's amazing urban agriculture work.  We have a garden where we try to live sustainably off of.  If we can't grow it we try our very best to depend on other Detroit or Michigan farmers.  In our yard we have 20 fruit trees and 15 grape vines.  Summers keep us busy as we busily try to perserve a lot of our produce for the winter and of course christmas gifts. We also have have chickens, which we raise for eggs and pets, and bees.

Okay thats it for now...got to get back to work...

Welcome Erin!  I've heard a bit about the rise of urban agriculture and reclaiming industrial areas in Detroit - it sounds fascinating.  And I have friends who are starting an intentional agricultural community (an ecovillage) - I'd love to hear more about yours!

These communities sound fabulous. I would love to get in on something like that. We have our own small garden in the yard, that we'll eventually expand. Our community doesn't allow chickens, though, which I'm kind of bummed about. I miss being able to go out to the coop and grab my own fresh eggs. And we don't have enough space for more than one tree. We've debated eventually getting a fruit tree, but the question is always what kind of fruit we want to grow. :)

Welcome, ErinnFahey! This is a great group! smile.gif

Sounds like you've found the perfect doctor for you, and I am jealous of your amazing sounding garden. One of these days I'll manage to start a garden, but I just don't have much practice, so I know I have a lot to learn. smile.gif In the meantime, we have some black raspberry bushes that produce a nice amount of berries in the summer, and I love to support our local farms each year through a CSA and the farmers market!

Look forward to seeing you more around!

Looks like the Gender count is 6 girls vs 5 boys... Make sure to announce your baby's sex either here or on the gender announcements thread!

Also, if you'd like, let me know if you are "Team Green" and I can note that as well! :D

What is Team Green? I've seen it a few times, but I'm not sure what all it encompasses. :)

Team Green just means you have no desire to find out your baby's sex before the birth.  Y'all can count me in on that, too - provided baby agrees... DD was pretty damn obvious when we had her 20-week ultrasound, legs wide open.  We didn't really need the tech telling us what she was.  Hopefully this one will be more modest.

Or, you could be like me and you have very strong desires to know what the sex of the baby is but for whatever reason (for me it's wanting the 'moment of reveal' at birth at least once and wanting to prove to myself that yes, i can wait for something!), you decide to wait on finding out.  You can also join team green if you want to find out and baby is uncooperative! winky.gif

Thank you all for your warm welcome!  We will find out baby's sex next Wednesday!  Very excited!  This means we will start brainstorming names more seriously, which I have been anxiously waiting for..

spughy--  The work going on in Detroit is pretty amazing.  There is a lot of grass root work happening and has for years.  It has been hard for it to shine through with the negative image of Detroit portrayed in the media.  But it surely is a place of creativity and joy in the face of economic devastation.  In addition to the agriculture work, our community also heavily focuses on knowing our neighbors and building community.  We see this as some of the most important work in being human and helps make a place sustainable and safe.  It also lends itself to leaning on each other when things are rough.    In terms of our day to day we eat meals 3 times a week.  Host monthly gatherings with a wider circle of friends.  When describing ourselves, we often find ourselves saying we are rooted in the Catholic Worker tradition (although most of us are not Catholic, in fact a lot of Catholic workers aren't)

cabbitdancer--  Oh I agree about those fresh eggs.  I never had any until I started raising my own. and o my! chickens aren't exactly legal here either.  We haven't gotten ticketed yet and our crossing our fingers.  We think the only way they would enforce is if neighbors really complained.  I hope you get a fruit tree...I know there are just soo many to choose from!

chocolatechip--  i encourage you to start a garden!  just think of it as a big experiment.  You will learn along the way!  Good luck with the raspberries!!

Welcome Erinn!

I am a big proponent of hypno birthing. I've used it twice and plan to use it this time, but I think I need a refresher. :) AND, I also cannot say enough things about fresh chicken eggs. We have 16 chickens, which might be too many, but we eat a lot of quiche. I made an Egg souffle last night which was a big hit with the kids. I'm sorry they aren't legal where you are, but I'm sure your neighbors won't complain unless you get a rooster. We have one hen who just crows and cries when she lays, so that would be the only thing I'd worry about, but otherwise they are pretty quiet.
