Are these herbs safe while BFing?

Hello. I have a question regarding a product that is made up of Chinese herbs. It's called SerenX by Xymogen. I use to use it to help with my anxiety and it works very well for me. However, since being pregnant and now BFing I've held off using it out of fear that it might harm my ds or milk supply. But I am in much need of chilling out these days so Im hoping someone here - maybe an herbalist can tell me if these herbs are safe to use while BFing. Ingredients are:
Rhemannia glutinosa
Schisandra chinensis
Jujube fruit (Zizphus jujube)
Biota seed (biota orientalis)
Dong quai root (angelica sinesis)
Chinese asparagus root (asparagus cochinchinesis)
Ophiopogon japonicus
Scrophularia ningpoensis
White panax (panax ginseng)
Chinese salvia root (salvia miltiorrhiza)
Poria fungus (Poria fungus (poria wolfiporia)
Platycodon root (platycodon grandiflorum)
Acorus Rhizome (acorus gramineus)

For some I just gave both the scientific name and common name hoping this helps. Thank you.

I don't use this product and don't know enough about the formula to say whether or not it is safe while breastfeeding.  You could try calling the company and see what they say.

Often with herbs and supplements, my recommendation to patients is very different depending upon the age of their nursing baby/toddler.  Obviously, the bigger/older the nursing child, the less likely they are to be affected by supplements mom is taking, as their body is more able to handle the small amount of a supplement that may get into breast milk.  However, I always recommend checking with the company that manufactures the supplement when in doubt.  It is better to be safe than put a nursing baby at risk of harm.

Warmly,

Dr Jennifer
