I want the baby to be checked after birth, and I like having her "on call" if I did decide in labor I want her there, but I really just want to do it alone.
Also, my midwife charges her L&D fee even if she doesn't make the birth, so it's not like I'd be short changing her price-wise at all..
We did that with my 1st UC, although I had mentioned to my MW ahead of time that we were considering UC, and she was 3 hours away so it's not like it was far fetched even if we weren't planning it! LOL She did only charge us per appointment, though, but we also didn't start seeing her until 22 weeks.
This time we were thinking of possibly doing it that way with my OB- but he WOULDN'T know, obviously. In then end, though, I just couldn't make that work comfortably (I have a pretty big fear of having CPS called on us for out parenting choices that are no mainstream...not that we do anything wacky or negligent, just that we are in an area where there are few to no people like me as far as birth, health choices, breastfeeding, co-sleeping, etc go, that I don't think it would be wise to put myself in any sort of spotlight). I just felt like it didn't matter how I went about the UC, it would not work out pleasantly with my OB.
