Pregnancy Management Program

We have medical mutual. Yesterday I get this piece of mail stating that a nurse will be calling me to set me up for their SuperHealthy Maternity Management Program with some third party company called Alere. They will ensure that I am following my doctors orders, taking all my medicine and eating my low fat, high carb diet. All my lab work and ‘pertinent’ medical history will be ‘shared’ with their business partner (Alere). What are the benefits for me, you ask? (Don’t get jealous) I get 2 or 3 complimentary phone consultations with a “health coach” and (yippy) 24 hour access to a ‘baby hotline’. Then, and this is such a huge incentive, upon completion of the program I get a $25 gift card.....to presumably spend ALL IN ONE PLACE!

Insurance is so worthless. HIPPA is an an absolute joke. Everyone and their brother is legally entitled to my records.  My head is going to explode. I'll like to see the claim for that one.

I am, of course, going to decline this very generous offer.

This is hilarious!

I just posted something about my insurance being crap a little while ago.

I had cancelled my insurance policy because it went up to $400 a month... Seriously? Anyway, the policy expires Oct. 1. I tried to set up a policy with lesser benefits through the same insurance company, thinking that if that insurance went into effect before my old policy expired, I would be covered. Nope. They won't cover pregnancy unless conception occurs six months after the policy has taken effect.

... Whatever. banghead.gif

Sorry.  Yeah, insurance is a joke.

Oh wow, yeah. That's crazy.

I couldn't agree more. I'm so fed up at this point.

It's crazy for sure!  I got the same offer last time and declined also.  Sadly, imagine how many people do sign up...not realizing what it means for all that info to be shared, etc.

It's funny because as of this year, if you enroll in a program called "baby yourself" (which sounds exactly like what you are talking about), they waive the $200 hospital fee they normally charge. That's the only fee for maternity care with my insurance. I find it very suspicious. Obviously they are making money off it somehow, and they most likely have some agenda. However, I'll probably go ahead and do it to avoid the $200. And I CAN'T live without the complimentary Similac diaper bag....

Be jealous... I get $75!

I'm not sure I want to, though, as only CNMs are listed in my plan, but my CPM uses a billing company and got my last birth covered. SHHHH!!!!!

LOL.  I am jealous.  Maybe I can make a deal with them....I'll tell them that for a $75 gift card I'll eat an extra 3 servings a day of white bread with lo fat spread AND   I'll get one flu shot in each trimester just to be safe.
