boy passing dd inapropriate notes. wwyd?

My dd is in 3rd grade.  She has been telling me about a boy in her class who she seems to have a somewhat antagonistic friendship with.  Today she told me that he was passing her secret notes in class.  Sh etold me the notes said;  I love you; I want to kiss you; marry me; you are sexy; you are hot. 

Dd says he is "trying to be funny", when he writes these notes.  I told her some of the things he wrote were inapropriate and asked her if she felt comfortable telling her teacher or asking him to stop writing them.  She said she might ask him to stop. 

Is this sort of thing is normal, I don't know?   Do you all think I should email the teacher?  Or maybe just see how things progress?  Ugh, I had hoped we wouldn't be dealing with this stuff for a while.

I would talk to the teacher. Those are phrases many kids hear and use these days - they weren't used until much older when I was a kid but I hear them from younger kids all the time now! Just giving the teacher a head's up notice is a good idea.
