I have a close friend that lost her dd to cancer about 7 years ago, way before I knew her. Her dd's birthday is coming up, and I'm wondering what would be ok to say or do. I didn't know her dd, so I don't want to overstep, but I love my friend and I want her to know that I'm thinking of her. Our kids are friends, and have a little dance class together on the actual bday so I will probably see that day. Thanks for any help :)

It's so thoughtful of you to remember your friend on this very important day. My suggestion would be to ask your friend what is best. One friend of mine said notes and flowers helped because she felt supported but found conversations on the day difficult. Another friend appreciates people doing something to raise awareness of the disease that her child died from and help others, especially on important days/anniversaries. Hope this helps!
