I'm working part-time more this year and my 9-year-old needs to come along and kill time while I'm busy. She has a laptop at her disposal and enjoys stuff like KhanAcademy, but we have no internet where I work. I'm wondering if anyone knows of any free or cheap downloadable programs for math practice or enrichment that she might be able to make use of. Or really anything academic ... critical thinking puzzles, sciencey stuff, I don't know what all. She has games to play and books to read, but she'd also like to use her time there for some academic work and has asked if there's anything she could load onto her computer.
She's probably at a 7th or 8th grade level. She finished Singapore Primary Math a year or so ago and has worked through most of Ed Zaccarro's "Challenge Math" book. We're mostly enriching and consolidating before moving ahead fully into high school level stuff. So I guess in American terms she'd be pre-Algebra-ish?
Anyone have any suggestions?
Miranda
