Audrie's birth story

Alright..while the babe is in the nursery for a second i wanted to write down the birth story.

I posted that i went into the hospital for blood pressure monitoring, nst, lab tests etc yesterday. Everything was fine. The plan was to induce me by AROM on monday, which would have put me at 40+5. I kept having some braxton hicks contractions but didn't think anything about it since i had those episodes of contractions that kept petering out at night. Anyway, i was super tired yesterday, went to bed at 9pm. I woke up a few times with contractions but fell back asleep until i awoke again at 130am with an uncomfortable one. I wanted to watch my soap online but couldn't even lay down. Went to pee and saw some bloody mucous. At that point i woke up DH to tell him that this might be it.

I started timing contrax and they were anywhere from 2-7minutes apart and only 1 minute long. I was going back and forth on if i should wake my mom and call mil to take the kids. At 315am i told mil to come over and went to get my mom, too. At 4am we headed to the hospital. We had a 30 minute drive and contrax didn't seem to change much. I was sure they were gonna send me walking the hallways. I told DH that i wanted an epidural lol.

Anyway they checked me and i was 8cm with a bulging bag. I asked for my water to be broken and shortly after i felt pressure in my butt. My moans and groans had turned very primal at that point BUT it didn't feel right. The time between contractions seemed too long. I was so used to back to back pressure but i didn't have that this time. So after i pushed first time, they lost her heartbeat. Then they said that the heart was only 61bpm and i freaked out. Turns out it was my own heart and they found baby again but still with decels. Anyway..i heard bits and pieces "lots of tissue around baby", 'call OR to get ready', 'push', 'don't push' etc. out came the suction cup and i got a 3rd degree epi. Baby came out with the cord losely wrapped around her neck and the ob (not mine...the one on call but awesome) assumed uterine rupture because of the heart rate dips. That wasn't the case though. All was well. Audrie was born with apgars of 8 and 9 and we're both doing good. I'm still waiting on another recovery room and can't wait to take a shower later smile.gif.

She latched on perfectly fine...loooove the suck, swallow, sigh noises. I'm totally blown away by this little girl. She's so cute smile.gif.

Thank you ladies. I forgot about those afterpains. Ouch. Audrie spit up a lot of colostrum yesterday. The milk machine seems to be working perfectly fine.

Also, I forgot to say, how fun and exciting that you went into labor on your own and got to have those, "is this it? I think this is it!" moments and waking up your DH in the middle of the night and everything

Hi! Congrats on your little one!! Did you get to use Dr. Visaria for your VBAC after all? We're here temporarily with the AF on TDY, just in time to have a baby. Looking for a VBAC serious doc. I've had a few great visits with her, but would love to hear more about "interventions" and such. Were there any surprises that you didn't want with your VBAC? Did you LOVE Clear Lake? Thanks in advance!

Hey. I love dr. V but had an on call who was great. Clear lake was good, though checking out on a sunday took forever, mainly due to the pediatrician being at church in the morning and not being there to give us the ok to go home with baby.

I believe the on call ob was dr. Perez. I didnt talk to her much cause everything went so fast. There weren't any surprises but the usual tribulations that come with a hospital vbac like an iv, no waterbirth, continuous monitoring etc. I had talked all of that over with dr. V before though, so i knew it was coming.

All in all, having had three kids, dr. V was the first ob i really felt comfortable with and i can only recommend her.
