Oh, speaking of country, there is that Carrie Underwood song where she keys the guy's truck: "Before He Cheats." Even if it doesn't apply to your situation, the cheating, etc..... sometimes it helps to imagine going nuts on a guy's car (or anything he cares too much about). If you are the type that likes to get the anger out. :)
It is not even my personality at all; I am a very logical person. But for some reason, I don't do well with the emotional-type stuff when I am trying to find my "voice." I just like listening to songs about a woman that goes out and kicks some a$$, no matter how ridiculous. So try it!!!!!!!! For some reason, most of those songs are country. The Kelly Clarkson ones are all good.
Also, if you don't normally listen to country, sometimes it feels good to do something that is TOTALLY new and different, because it helps establish a new piece of you (or at least a new mood) that has nothing to do with what your old routine was. So listen to different radio stations, watch different TV networks, go to a different chinese restaurant than usual (even if you don't like them much, at least it is something DIFFERENT and NEW and that's the point. You don't have to change who you are, just mix up your life so things feel different and you are experiencing new things, however small or subtle. Maybe you will like something you never thought you'd like. It especially seems to help me if it was something my ex would have hated, and even if I had no strong opinion, it was at least like a "you don't control what I do").
For example, I had an ex that was really "hipster," and he would always roll his eyes at mainstream movies that were just stupid humor, so I learned to enjoy them for what they were. If your ex was all about burgers, try a vegan restaurant, etc.
