Hernia in a 9-year-old

Thread Starter

I just came back from the hospital with my DD1 , with the diagnose of a hernia on her side , right above her hip bone .

The doctor told us , it is quite rare in kids , but it does happen and since she loves carrying her younger sisters around all the time , she most likely got it from there .

Now my question , he didn´t want to do any surgical intervention ( yet ) , but said , that sometimes it heals by itself , if she takes it easy for a  few weeks and desn´t do any heavy lifting .

Anybody ever heard of a hernia , that closes up by itself ? And is there anything else , I can do to help her with it , like a supportive band ?

Or is the doctor full of .... and I should get a second opinion ?
