can i felt a 500g wool duvet into another blanket creation?

Hi crafty people , i am so inspired here. I am thinking of what i can do with a huge wool duvet i have but it got smelly , really smelly from my old contaminated apt and its the unwashable/dry clean only kind. I want to take it apart and really clean the wool, see if its moldy, like my apt, because everything else was taken over by a strong mustyness. I am thinking i can "felt" it somehow and then turn it into a nice washable blanket like people are doing with diaper coverings. Am i on the right track? Tell me this is possible? I am so pumped to try it. I will fish around for more ideas.

I am sure this answer is 5 months too late, but your "ruined" blanket is exactly what I have in mind for a project!

What I would do is to wash it really well, dry it in the dryer, let it felt as much as it likes. Then look up a "bog jacket" pattern. The classic jacket is by Elizabeth Zimmerman, and VERY, VERY simple, although many variations will come up on a google search. This pattern is an engineering marvel - a few strategic straight cuts, 2 short, straight seams, and you are done. Add pockets, collar, buttons, zipper, cuffs, embellishments as desired. Or don't!
