If your second labor was fast, was your third fast too?

So, my labor with DS was about 3 hours- start to finish. 

 

Of course, I had several bouts of false labor (I hate that term) in the weeks beforehand and was walking around at 4 cm dilated and 90% effaced for a couple of weeks. 

 

If you had a super fast labor, was it followed by another super fast labor or was the next labor slower?

Ooh I look forward to reading the responses! My second labor was 5-6 hrs long depending on how you count, which seemed really fast to me, and I'm curious how long my third labor will be.

First baby - labor was 8 hrs. 

 

Second baby - labor was 2 hrs 45 minutes. 

 

Third baby - labor was 1 hr 30 minutes! 

 

So yeah, for me it got faster each time. And when I had got checked just 3 days beforehand I was 1 cm dilated (midwife said from having given birth before it was like that all the time probably), and I was not effaced at all but she said my cervix was feeling soft. She said to me "You're not having a baby anytime this week". LOL.

also looking forward to this thread! my first labor was 17 hours (pitocin induction but was unhooked from the Pit after labor got going), and my second was 2 1/2 hours!

Peony- Can you tell us about your #4 labor? Was it all normal, just longer?

 

DD was 16 hours from the time my water broke, 10 hours from the time contractions started

DS was 3 hours flat

Im terrified about how fast these twins will come. But at the same time, a quick labor is always nice. After DS was born, I was like "thats it? really? awesome, Im going to take a shower now."

My first was 11hrs , born at 37 weeks
my second 5 1/2 hrs, 37.5 weeks
my third 5 1/2 hrs, 39 weeks

I love reading this thread. Not expecting #2 yet but DD was 14 hours - gel induction then epidural. I was wondering if you ladies might post gestational ages? I know it won't help OP much since twins tend to come early but I'd love to see if moms who were late and possibly induced the first time still went over 40 weeks for subsequent pregnancies.
DD was 41 weeks, induced, 14 hour labour

My first was about 8 hrs (hosp induction)
2nd was about 5-6 hrs (hosp natural)
3rd, ugh. 29 hrs after water broke, 12+ hrs after contractions began (natural, at home)

Except the twins, I got to the hospital at 4 cm dilated with all my kids.

 

DD3 was born 8 hours later.

 

DS1 was born 2.5 hours later.

 

DS2 was born 30 minutes later (yes, I went from 4 to fully dilated and birth in 30 minutes).

 

The twins were a whole 'nother story. My water broke at 10pm Wednesday and they were born at 4:40 and 4:50 Friday morning. I had about a 12 hour rest between when my water broke and the active labor started.

I was induced with DS1 (17 hours) for going to 42 weeks, but later found out about charting/ovulation time, etc, and realized that my due date was about 10 days off. With DS2 (2 1/2 hour labor) I went to 41 weeks 4 days, and did a "birth drink" (had a midwife/homebirth) and had my membranes stripped before he came. I was at 6-7 cm's before I went into labor with DS2...

 

This time I plan to let this baby come ON HIS OWN, so I am guessing that my labor will be somewhere around 4-8 hours... I think my first labor was so long because I was induced with pitocin (at 4 cm's) and was still not quite ready to go into labor, and I think my second was so fast because we did the membrane stripping (2 days in a row)/birth drink and I didn't go into labor until 6-7 cm's..

Oh yes! First was 16 hours active, second <2 hours, third was 21 mins from first contraction to out.

Mine was 4 hours start to finish with DD2, she was out in 2 quick pushes. 

 

#3...definitely not short.  9 hours, but 6 hours at COMPLETE with zero urge to push. (can you say, "hello c/s!" had I been in a hospital!!??)  However, he was my first boy, and followed the genes on both sides of my family (big, almost 10lbs, with a 15.5" head), and my body had to acommodate to him differently than with my small girls.  So, had #3 been a girl, I have to wonder....

1st- 3.5 hours at 34 weeks

 

2nd- 1.5 hours at 37 weeks

 

3rd- 2.5 hours at 37 weeks.

I'm interested in this too. My midwife keeps reminding me every birth is different-but I love my fast births! My first was 7 hours from start of induction to birth (39 weeks), and my 2nd was 39 weeks as well, but at home unassisted, about 2.5 hours. Hoping #3 is quick and easy too.

Statistically I believe that's true, but not always.  Just figure it will probably be faster, but don't assume something's wrong if that's not the way it goes.
First baby, I started feeling contractions about midnight, to 1am. Called dh to come home at 2am, tried to sleep. Contractions didn't get serious until that evening, 7pm contractions were really hard, we went to birth center... I was dilated to a 3, had baby at 11pm.
Baby #2, went to regular appointment, 10-11am ish, not feeling any contractions, she checked I was dilated to a 3. Talk about different!  Baby was born around 6am next morning I think?
Common factor was both were born 10-15 min after my water broke.
Baby #3, my water broke on it's own, I freaked out expecting to give birth in the next 15 min.  Gave birth 26 hours later. Didn't get any good contractions going until about 4 hrs before birth.

I had a fast and furious first labor, and this is an issue I brought up with our midwife.  (I'm afraid of having the same thing happen again).

She had a very interesting point.  She explained that sometimes, the fear of having a second fast labor (sometimes there is such a thing as too fast!) is enough to slow things down to even a halt.  She's had clients whose second labor just stalled from the fear of things going to fast.  

 

I never thought of that!

And my fifth: water broke at 7.30 am, active labor began at 12.15 pm and had baby in arms at 2.44 pm...so it was fast once things got going.
