small gestational sac- update « Back to Group Discussions

Hi,

Well, I am not sure who can help me with this or give support, or just a glimmer of hope that we are not losing our 5th pregnancy (with 1 live birth).

I went in for an U/S yesterday, and the baby was exactly the right size (9.2mm), but the gestational sac was only 10.6mm across. I've read the difference between the two should be at least 5mms, and in general, my gest. sac should be at least twice as big by now. The doctor cautioned me not to be too optimistic.

No bleeding or anything, but I'm on progesterone, so that would delay it anyway...

I am just plain bummed and feel helpless- I have another checkup next Thursday, and now I can just sit and wait while my baby might be dying right now...

Sorry about the sad post, I know there are others out there who know how I feel...

Orshi, I see you already found the website I mentioned in the other thread (misdiagnosedmiscarriage.com). These positive stories will be with you as you try to stay positive through the difficult wait period. Based on the stories there, I have realized that it is absolutely essential to wait it out as long as you possibly can, don't take any labor induction medication or concede to any surgical procedures until you have absolute confirmation via follow up ultrasounds. Thinking positive thoughts for you! Did you see a heartbeat?

Hi Porcelina,

Thanks for your encouragement. Yes, we did see a heartbeat, it's just that the sac looked basically as long as the baby.

I've read some of the "misdiagnosed" stories, and they do help us wait, I think. Nevertheless, it is sooo hard to not know. But who am I trying to explain this to- you already know.

I did find a very few positive stories on the web- and warnings never to do research on the net at a time like this....

They can really freak you out, but the media is always good at that, no?

Please keep the updates coming and I will do the same.

Thanks TJ, I'll give an update as soon as I know more.

I read somewhere that drinking lots of water helps with a small sac- I have no idea what the connection might be (if any), but I haven't been drinking enough, so I'm now drinking like a fish- at least I feel like I am doing SOMETHING.
