I'm getting ready to leave for two weeks tomorrow to visit my family in the States. My sister already knows I'm pregnant. I told her a while ago. She's had two miscarriages and has given up on having kids. I wanted her to know before we show up. I didn't want to surprise her like I plan to do with my mom. We're going camping with her and her husband, then spending the rest of the trip at my parent's house. Traveling is so stressful. We can't afford to travel as a family, so I'm on my own. And DD has been pretty ornery lately.

Poor DD was so exhausted when I picked her up from school and went to the grocery (to get snacks for our flight tomorrow) that she started crying by the time we got home and asked to have a nap before having lunch. Usually this is the kid who always asks to skip nap time. I was shocked.

I had an ultrasound today for dating. The technician said the baby is 12w6d and that that's the baby's age, so it doesn't account for the extra 3 weeks. So I guess that means I could be 14w6d? I think I'll stick with my original dd. The ultrasound can be up to 8 days off, she said. At least I know I'm close with my date. It was wonderful to see our baby, so cute! We got a great shot of the legs and what's between them and it certainly could be a boy. It could have been the umbilical cord, too. Now I'm just waiting to hear from the insurance company on whether they'll cover the homebirth midwife as in-network. My fingers are crossed!

Heard the heartbeat tonight! So awesome! We're ready to tell the world! ...this weekend LOL

Have a good trip IronMam!!

Glad your u/s went well MommyRuth!

As for me, I have my u/s tomorrow, and I'm excited to see our little one (thinking that IF all goes well, we might tell our children and my parents after it, picture included). But I'm also nervous. I feel like sure, this is the first time I've seen the 2nd tri come so close in a great many pregnancies, but if I'm finally successfully pregnant after all those losses then something ELSE must be wrong. NORMAL just feels so ABnormal for me anymore, and I am so used to failure that it feels like things can't possibly be ALL good. It's a horrible outlook, really, but I can't seem to shake it. Again, though, I know it's likely part of the way my mind is protecting me should something happen, but still...

In other news, the face rash that I mentioned earlier...um, yeah.  It seems to be related to some sort of spice, yet I can't pinpoint it because sometimes I can eat VERY similar things and not get it.  But I ate chili tonight and had the worst rash yet...around my mouth, above my eyes (forgot to mention earlier that I usually get it there along with around my mouth), and across my cheek.  VERY strange.  I can't recall if I got it this badly with my last pregnancy (my son), so I'm wondering if it has something to do with girl pregnancies for me, because I got it bad with my 2 daughters, and I was kind of thinking this one is a girl...but I lack any ounce of intuition so don't hold me to that. LOL

Aha!  Found my old post on the rash thing.  Good thing I posted about it, because now my old revelations are really helpful!  I'd totally forgotten how much ACV had helped!

hug.gif onebabysmom, I hope the ultrasound brings you nothing but peace and reassurance.

I was working out with my two youngest today, and an older man stopped me to chat...in the course of the conversation (which started out innocently about how he liked our tie-dye sweatshirts), he first asked if I"would finally be stopping," after this baby...then he very kindly told me I'm in "the danger zone" because of my age...and then he went on to tell me not one, not two, but FOUR stories of women he knew with Down Syndrome babies.

Wow.

Wow.

And wow.

Have a great trip, Ironmam, and congrats on the happy ultrasound, Kara!

Love, p

Have a safe trip, Ironmam, and I hope the ultrasound brings you the reassurance you need, onebabysmom.

I forgot how early pregnancy brings vivid dreams/nightmares. greensad.gif I haven't had a restful night's sleep in two or three days. But I keep trying to remind myself, this too shall pass.

On brighter news, DF reminded me last night that this week will be the first week we aren't handing over every dollar we make to make the bills, and that we'll actually have some money to shop for the house, the baby, and some clothes. I'm really excited about that. We have had to worry so much about money for so long, that while we're not nearly rich by any means now, we don't have to worry about whether we pay rent/bills or eat anymore. joy.gif

I'll be 11 weeks saturday....I have a HORRRRRRIBLE head cold...I'm miserable. Flat out miserable. wah! LOL

Well my u/s went well, saw little baby stretching and it was SO sweet.  It's so precious to see those little fingers and feet and all those tiny little features when they are just inches big!  Measured 12w (I'm 11w3d), so growing perfectly.

She things I might have a little bit of a possible SCH, which didn't show in my initial u/s nor have I had any signs, and hopefully won't be a problem.  With my son my first u/s was at 13 weeks and she saw signs of a possible one with no symptoms, and I had one with my ectopic WITH very obvious symptoms, but I don't know about with my other 8 pregnancies...so it may just be common for me.  Who knows.

I know placentas generally start out low and move up, but it always freaks me out to hear it's "covering my birth canal."  Totally not a concern at this point, (though with my history I won't take it lightly) knowing that previa generally resolves itself in a few weeks as baby grows and it will likely be better placed (I've never had placenta trouble, always high posterior placement), but just not a fan of knowing where it's at right now. LOL

Aw, Martha. I feel your pain and I hope you feel better. I'm 12 weeks with a chest cold that's migrating to my sinuses. The school nurse urged me to go home sick today. I'm grateful for the long weekend to try to recoup.

I just got over a nasty cold too.  I took my sweet time pushing vit. C though, so it was my own fault, but once I did it disappeared quite quickly.  Still no fun.

Hello all!

I finally got confirmation that I do indeed have Hashimotos. Since I was already going in to have my regular OB appt I was able to cross the lobby and get my rx for that. 200mcg of Synthroid! I do hope I finally start to notice a difference.

Back to my appt. First met with the Dr and heard the little heartbeat at 169bpm. Got permission to stop promethium next Friday (14 weeks) and just about did a happy dance. Then I had an u/s and actually saw the baby in addition to hearing it. So crazy how much more detail I can see this time around (12w6d) compared to the last time we were in. I saw hands and a profile and the little feet crossed at the ankles. Measured at 12w3d so doing well.

Overall, I'm relieved to finally be getting some answers as far as my thyroid issues and I'm just glad to know things are still progressing.

Vitamin D is pretty crucial too. In large enough quantities it seems it's even more effective at maintaining strong immunity than C. I had dropped my intake by like 1000 once I started taking prenatals, and the bloodwork from my first prenatal visit confirmed why i am suffering from a cold now! Levels are ok between 30 and 100. I was at 36! Back taking more D again- gummy of course.:)

Totally agreed, we take CLO on a regular, daily basis!

I find pushing high doses of C once I'm already sick works wonders.  It's amazing what they are relying on high C doses for these days (intravenously) as a sole medical treatment!  It's the main successful treatment for West Nile, too!

Here's my little babe!

Oh, and since we were talking heartburn/reflux recently, I thought it was interesting that my MIL brought up that she'd been reading some info on how they are proving the use of Rx antacids to contribute to malabsorption, osteoporosis, magnesium deficiency, vitamin D deficiency, cancers, etc because of the reduction of much needed acids.

Something else she also mentioned for anyone who is interested is not only using d-limonene instead, but taking it, and then manuka honey in combination (great stuff if you've never tried it!).  Also, with reflux at night, taking curcumin before bed (even with d-limonene since it works best when taken with oils), so that when the acid does come back up, the curcumin lessens the burn and can help the esophagus heal.

Beautiful baby!!! <3

Yes...I took 2000mg vit C (I usually take 1000 but had forgotten my vitamins for a whole week and then BAM cold)....and I usually take 5000iu vit D when I'm healthy....I doubled up for yesterday and today...will go back to normal tomorrow. Hopefully I'm better tomorrow....my son has a very important appointment I WILL be going to but would like to feel good when I'm there....not like total trash like I do right now.

Thanks all...

Wrote my midwife and asked if my uterus was normal sized...she said it does sound large but it does grow quicker with mommas of many....but I'm still not sure it should grow THIS quickly lol...my appt is next thursday...guess we'll find out then if it's normal or abnormally big lol.

Ahhh!  I've been lurking here in moments of procrastination but I'm glad to be able to come on and participate now.  Things have been, uh, overwhelming this week -- husband has been doing major construction in our house for the last three weeks (so we're down a whole bedroom/playroom of our 1000sqft house!), I had a Pharmacology exam tonight, I'm hosting my sister's (50 adult + 13 kid) wedding shower next Saturday, AND on top of it all I have a cold!  And of course I'm struggling with the dregs of "morning" sickness.  Blah!!  Add me to the "almost mainling Vits C&D" crowd.  What is the general consensus on doses here? I'm just praying this doesn't turn into a sinus infection but I am sure all the construction dust around here is not going to help with that!

Also add me to the tribe of ladies with vivid, freaky dreams during pregnancy (especially the first trimester!)  I actually have sex dreams so vivid I wake up having an orgasm a lot!  2whistle.gif  But I also have my fair share of nightmares.  Weirdly, with both my first and this pregnancy I have had TONS of dystopic/post-apocalyptic dreams...I have no idea what's that about except I guess that's just where my "fantasy" brain goes (I looooooove dystopic fiction!).

Tiffany, Glad you got some answers!!

1babysmom, yay for reassurring ultrasounds! What a sweet baby! You are right, your odds here are good that the placenta will move.  I also had a tiny SCH with my first and no problems at all, totally textbook and wonderful birth at home @38w.

Ruth, I'm so glad to hear you are finding providers you like!  Yay homebirth?  Was my friend any help with that?

IronMam, have a good trip!!

Cagnew and 1babysmom (and other homeschoolers): I know soooo many teachers and ex-teachers who homeschool.  Actually, I was a teacher in a previous life, my husband still is (on the college level, though), and my sister is a high school teacher who is also planning to homeschool!  Not to mention at least a half dozen of my homeschool friends.  It's kind of crazy!  I am also feeling the fall fever...wanting to bake constantly and making lots of soups.  Such fun, especially after my summer (usually my favorite season) was kind of a bust thanks to morning sickness.

Bambi, another heartburn trick:  with my son as long as I took 1T of apple cider vinegar in water before my meals I had no heartburn.  It sounds awful but it wasn't so bad and it TOTALLY helped.  I'm intrigued by the d-limenone suggestion too -- I had never heard of it.

To everyone who has heard heartbeats and see beebs:  YAY!  I can't believe how close some of us are to the anatomy scan!  We don't find out but I'm a total hypocrite because I LOVE when others do!

xo to everyone

Oh my gosh, me too!! I practically attacked my hubby the other night because I woke up before I "got there" and had to ...ahem... fix that lol.

Is anyone else having heartburn yet? Mine started last night or the night before, and it's already really bad.
