Belly binding postpartum - Page 2

This might be a weird question. And I feel bad for even bringing it up. But the one reservation I would have with belly binding is that it might... lock in wrinkles in your stomach because it's bound right after birth? Like if your postpartum stomach is being held in a vice grip, where would the extra skin go except to wrinkle and fold awkwardly?

I don't know how it actually works, but from what I have read, it helps reduce any stretch marks and get skin back to looking good.  Like I said, I don't know how or if it actually works, but interesting though.

Yeah, good thought.
I'm thinking moisturize as well?
Plus it'll be off at night (or any other time you don't want to wear it) so the skin can get some air.

lol- the image of a lotus-bound belly is rather unappealing.

i was thinking i'd wear it up and about, and mostly upright (which is most of my life after 2 week pp), and not at night or during folded up positions.  then i'd get plenty of belly breathing time and also some support.  more than anything, i'd like to give my waist a chance to recover- and my umbilical hernia is rather painful after birth as the muscles and fluids get all wonky.  i wonder if holding it together better (i have used a belly band the last 3 pregnancies per my midwife to help support it) could actually help it heal better.  it's genetic- my dad has his surgically repaired.  and 2 of my daughters were born with little ones too.  which doesn't give me hope to fix it naturally, but i'm just curious if the rest of my muscles are healing and i support them if they'll also work a little harder to support this one little blurp.

I'm going to do belly binding this time. This is my 3rd pregnancy and we want more kids, so I'm all for anything that might help get things in place. Now I need to start doing some research.

Thanks!!!

I actually haven't had a lot of success finding how-tos on using a wrap for postpartum.  Maybe a look on youtube?

The link I posted earlier is mostly for using a short woven wrap for support during pregnancy.

I keep hearing that it's too difficult to wrap yourself, that you won't be able to get it tight enough, and you'll need someone to help you do it.  I dunno.  Still worth a look around to see what kinds of tips and such are out there.

Topping this! I'm trying to decide between the belly bandit and the tauts/baboosh. They seem pretty similar. Also, buko, I noticed that belly bandit now makes one called "BFF" that they say is good for shorter torsos.

Has anyone found out good herbs to use on the postpartum belly? I plan to just oil myself down (thinking a lot of rosehip seed) and use helichrysum essential oil and then put on the wrap.

Yeah, haven't thought much about herbs but I guess I should...
I love calendula for all things skin related and I have some I could start infusing now.
Was also thinking maybe the herb blend they prepare for perineal healing might be good for the belly... Will have to ask about that.

I also love calendula! That would be a good one to add to an oil mixture. Now that I'm thinkin' I'm going to use these essential oils: helichrysum (said this already, but it's seriously amazing and worth the $$), frankincense, rose geranium, carrot seed and if I feel like plunking down the money, blue chamomile.

My friend just gave me some perineal herbs so I'm also wondering if those would be good for the belly.

Thank you!

Dropping in from the March 2013 DDC (due 3/4 and DD was early so this babe may be as well...)

Aviva Romm is a wonderful herbalists who has a book called Natural Health After Birth. I know that she includes recipes for herbal baths and teas but I haven't had a chance to look at it in a while. She may even include some ideas for what to use with a belly wrap, I wouldn't be surprised. Either way, its a useful book to have!

her website is refreshing, too.

This is the place highly recommended to me for my post-natal wrapping. I'm going to share what I can as my little adventure into this unknown realm unfolds.

I bought a wrap by Leonisa. It's not strictly for postpartum and sort of looks like a corset, but had good reviews on the internet from PP mamas. It's actually pretty sexy looking-- I've definitely never owned anything like it before! I was really confused about sizing, so I went more with waist size than hip (and deducted 5 inches from my belly's current size as a guesstimate) and I can tell by looking at it that I might need to size down before the 6 week PP mark.

typebug, I'm jealous! I wish there was a place around here that did wrapping.

Jean-

Which one did you get?  i'm looking at their site and was curious to which you decided on!

You get 10% for being a new customer, plus free shipping, so $36 total. Not bad! I obviously haven't tried it on but it looks to be a good quality and feels soft. They also sent me another 0% off code, so if I need to buy a smaller size it will be the same price.

I just looked, and the blue one is on sale for $36, plus if you use the coupon code SALE30 you get an additional 30% off, so it comes to $22.40.

Blue wasn't my first choice, but I ordered it for the savings :)

Also ebates.com has 6% cashback on leonisa.

Hmm.. well nevermind that. I was going to post the link to the blue one, and now it doesn't show up anymore! Maybe they only had one blue one left.

Oooh, I'm totally into checking this out!  After my first, I'm certain my hips stayed wider than they had been pre-baby.  I've been thinking about one of those hip wraps.  Do you think that is comparable to belly wrapping?

I used the one from Inhishands.com and it was wonderful! My tummy is going back much quicker, it eliminated that feeling that everything was hanging out, and my after birth pains were much less. I sure wish I would have used one with the other 4!
