Belly binding postpartum - Page 4

Thanks everyone.  I have to say, the binder REALLY has made a huge difference this time.  DH can't get over it.  I usually have a really big pooch for at least 4-6 months, so this is AMAZING!  Besides that, it helped so much with the after pains.  REALLY amazed by how much less Advil I needed and how it passed quicker.  MW said my uterus was returning to its normal position and size really very quickly too, so, I have to think it is from the binder too.

Anyways, I am just blown away and kinda sad that I didn't have one for the other two pregnancies... or at least one that was comfortable and I will actually wear.

Mine has been working really well also.  Don't have any pics but I wore jeans comfortably a few days ago, at less than 2 weeks postpartum.

This thread totally sold me on giving it a whirl.  I can't think of a reason it would be bad, and at the very least, I'd like to avoid the "guts falling out" feeling I've heard so much about.  I went ahead and ordered a Belly Bandit BFF in medium, so we'll see.  I got three gift cards to BRU and they have so little baby stuff I need (esp since we are planning on BFing and CDing), that when I saw they sold Belly Bandits online, I said, What the heck?

Yeah ya do.  ;)

cool, I think you'll be glad you ordered it.

I have been LOVING THIS! I'm using the cheap gabrialla wrap I got on amazon at the moment. No guts falling out feeling, I feel supported, and I think it's helping with afterpains.

Oh man the guts falling out feeling sucked.  I've been really lucky to not have afterpains much at all, with or without the binder, but with my huge twin belly there is just so much space now for my guts to slosh around in.  Five days out now it is mostly gone, but it was super painful every time I got out of bed those first two days.  Especially right afterwards my uterus felt like it was flopping out over the edge of my pelvis.  The abdominal binder helped probably 80%.  Definitely worth doing.  I can't say that I would recommend the hospital issue wrap, though.  Effective, but not so comfy.

I was planning on binding from the beginning and then my circumstances changed and I didn't really have the money for one.. Well, I found out today that my Mom has one from the last c-section she had. So I can belly bind after all and I'm excited! It feels really nice to have it on, today my abs were starting to bother me. I have diastasis recti and I'm really hoping the binding helps.

FYI, someone in another community I belonged to HIGHLY recommended this for diastasis (Tuppler Technique):

i have been in so much pain down there since giving birth to naomi that i haven't much let the bed. i have tried to use the belly bandit, which i got as a size medium, but it's too big. i'm pretty bummed that it is so big since i measured properly, and that thing was crazy expensive. i'll probably list it on craigslist once i am not waddling terribly.

Kellybeth-  Sorry it is too big.  And sorry you are so sore.

Thank you all so much for this thread!  I didn't know about belly binding until I read this thread.  I've been REALLY appreciated the support and comfort from doing this.  I got the same, affordable one that Jean got; I use it over a tank top that covers my belly. It moves well with my body, and doesn't bunch or pinch.  Gabriella Breathable Elastic Abdominal Binder. $25-$30.

The Gabrialla is such a good deal! I just persuaded a pregnant friend to get one. I bought a Leonisa one too and tried to put it on yesterday but it's still waaaaay too small.

How tightly is everyone wrapping? It's hard for me to get it as tight as it needs to be, I think. Might have DH cinch it for me. Although yesterday I put it on while lying down and that seemed to help.

i waited a full 4 days before trying anything b/c i couldn't handle it before.  and i also found my belly went down way faster than the sizing.  still waiting for a s belly bandit!  meanwhile, the binding w/ a squeem thing is a bit uncomfortable, but at 2 week pp, my waist is back!  i found the essential oil blend w/ belly oil and wrapped w/ saran wrap AMAZING under the binding!  my hormones are intense, so i'm using clary sage and geranium to help balance my estrogen (which has been way too high) and that's been great too.  i'm thinking by the time i get a S belly bandit i'll be needing an XS!  my hips are so much wider than my waist that what fits around my waist pinches my hips.

Yes, I am surprised that I am almost too small for the size small now.  I just have about an inch left until I won't be able to wear it anymore.  Hmmmm, I don't think I can convince DH to let me buy the next size smaller.

I only gained 18 lbs and lost it all, but am stuck right there at my pp weight, which i want to lose another 10 lbs to get to my 'ideal' weight.  What gives?  I have been at 150 for the past 4 days....

I haven't used my belly bandit yet either. Not moving around too much as I am also pretty sore and have a couple of stitches from a first deg tear. I hope it's not too small when I'm ready for it. I remember the lady at the store telling me I could add a strip of Velcro if it gets too big. Might be worth a try.

I have the Jolly Jumper belly band because I didn't want to fuss with the sizes for the belly bandit and it had good reviews. I was given the go ahead to start using it the day after Mila was born but it was insanely uncomfortable so there was no way I was going to do that. I'm wearing it every day now but only for a an hour or two at a time because baby hates it when she's eating and it's really unflattering.

I'm really happy with how my belly looks only 6 days pp though, which I was slightly concerned about since I know it can be a pretty significant toss up. My navel is almost back to normal, I didn't get any stretch marks, and my angry piercing holes are starting to calm down.

oooh- good idea.  if i do get the S and it doesn't work, i'll add velcro.  i can sew that well!!!  i was disappointed w/ how narrow the velcro strip was.

No one wants to share photos of progress?  Here is today at 2 weeks (plus one day) post partum.

You can see there is still a little pooch left in the first one, but I am almost ready to start doing some exercise of some sort.  How is everyone else doing?
