Preparing for conception...

I could have sworn I'd seen a thread about this somewhere. But, now I can't find it. I want to TTC again, but not for a few months because I feel like maybe my body needs to recover from my current miscarriage and I am anemic with iron and B's. I've just started taking B6 and B12 at higher levels. I get the other B's and some B6 and B12 in my prenatal. (Rainbow light)
Anyway, I would love to discuss what we're doing to prepare for conception. I have read that it takes 3 months for nutrition and stuff to have an effect on the eggs because they take around 3 months to mature. Maybe this topic is in another section, but I didn't find it anywhere. If there's already a place for this, please, lead me to it. :)

I feel kind of bad for not sharing last night. I totally spaced it. But, I got the kindle book from this website http://www.naturallyknockedup.com/ for free last night. It's 9.99 normally. I started reading it and it's pretty good. It talks about fertility cleansing and various herbs and foods to help you increase your chances of conceiving and having a healthy pregnancy. I haven't thoroughly searched through her website, but I think there's some info there too.

So, there's no thread to share how we are  preparing our bodies for conception? Does the "one thread" include anything? I just thought it would be nice to bounce things off of one another. I'm hoping to do everything I can to decrease my risk for another miscarriage.

I don't know if there's a thread already, but it couldn't hurt to start another one!  :)  

 

We're getting ready to TTC #2 starting in November (we have a 9-month old boy).  We got pregnant on our first try with #1, so I'm hoping it will be as easy this time around.  My insurance covers acupuncture (woohoo!!!) so I'm going 2x/month to make sure my hormones are balanced - so far, so good!  For me the biggest work has been mental, just wrapping my head around the idea of another pregnancy, natural birth (I pushed out a 10-pounder at home and hemorrhaged), and dealing with a newborn + a toddler + a husband.  I'm starting to warm up to the idea, I no longer cringe when I see a newborn!  :)

 

I'm taking pre-natals (rainbow light, too!) and iron supplements and probiotics.  I was anemic after the birth but recovered quite quickly.  I no longer nurse my son, so I think that has helped me to get back into baby-making mode quicker (I hope!).

 

Looking forward to reading what others are doing...

I would love to see a chiropractor again. I so miss going in for adjustments. I've read that can just help the whole body work better and therefore, helps balance hormones as well. I think I wouldn't mind trying acupuncture if I had the option. And I HATE needles, but anything for good  health. Well anything that doesn't interfere with my moral/religious standards anyway. LOL

 

I am doing pilates regularly. I've found that makes me feel better and helps me stay more aligned. And of course, regular cardio as well. I've lost 48 lbs since my last full-term pregnancy and still have around 15 to go to be at a good maintenance weight. I have read that losing weight during pregnancy will release toxins because your fat holds a lot of that, so I plan to get rid of it so that will have no effect on things.

I hope others join in this thread, it would be interesting to read what everyone is doing to prepare!  Any special foods or supplements?
I've never been to a chiro but I've always been curious... How do you know if a chiro is good, are there special certifications to look for?

 

Acupuncture is actually quite tame (yeah, I'm fearful of needles too!).  They are super thin and you can barely feel them going in, it's kind of like a mosquito bite.  They don't penetrate deep, barely go in, and the benefits are amazing.

I've lost about the same amount of weight as you, I have about 10 lbs to go to get to my pre-pregnancy weight but I was pretty fit back then so I don't feel bad for not having washboard abs right now.  My focus, like you, is health so I am swimming and hiking whenever I get a chance.  Yikes, I didn't know about releasing toxins during weight loss, but it sure makes sense.  Hmmm... Best I drop a few more pounds by the end of the year!

I've heard that "wellness chiropractors" do more with trying to adjust for specific health issues. Many chiropractors have experience treating pregnant women, but do ask or check on it. Some chiropractors will adjust babies and children. My friend said it helped her 17 month old with her allergies when she is adjusted. And she finds it helps her with her crohns and arthritis. I have a bad back and if I had more money, I'd see the chiro regularly. I didn't even go to any wellness chiropractors. Just being adjusted back into alignment feels so great. And I've read it helps your body to work better because it helps the spine to receive the messages from the brain. It can even help with hormonal issues. One of my previous chiropractors offered acupuncture as well.
