hypnobirth vs hypnobabies

Has anyone had experience with both of these?  I just realized today that I'm 25 weeks and I need to get my birth paranoia sorted out pretty quick!!!

I've had 4 midwife attended homebirths, so I'm very lucky, but for some reason (well, a lot of reasons) my last birth was very traumatic to me and I'm terribly frightened to give birth again.  I'm actually seriously considering going to the hospital and having an epidural.  Or maybe just asking if they can knock me out and wake me up when it's over...

oh, oh, I want to know too!

I had considered using one of these 2 programs, my midwife said she and her clients seem to like hypnobabies better. I actually went with a different option and went with the pink kit. So far I am loving it. Do you mind me asking why you are frightened to give birth again? I had a bad experience in the hospital after my home birth failed so I am a little scared of having this baby myself so that's why I am asking.

I've been wondering about this too, and trying to wade through the websites and some old threads.  The hospital I'm using offers hypnobirthing classes, but they don't fit with my husband's work schedule.  I'm considering the hypnobabies home study kit.  I think I may do better on my own rather than in a group setting anyway...  I asked my midwife if she felt there was any difference between the two, and she basically said that the underlying principles are so similar, and either one is great.

Pogo, I'm not familiar with the pink kit.  Could you share more about what you like about it?

Someone sent me this link which is interesting:

The general feeling I'm getting is that HypnoBabies is just 'better' for most moms.

The pink kit looks very interesting, but this is my 5th baby and I'm pretty familiar with the how-to's of birth.  I need help with the emotional side.

I'm also doing a program called Birthing From Love : http://birthingfromlove.com/ which I also hope will help me overcome my fears.

Pogo0685, I don't really know why I'm frightened.  I had 3 wonderful home births, especially the 3rd.  They were peaceful and 'textbook' if you will.  When I went into labour with my 4th, I had a very bad flu, the labour was very fast (90 minutes), I had too many people there, the birth tub wasn't deep enough, it was a girl...  So many reasons, but I was NOT relaxed during the birth, I went into shock after, I had severe PPD, breastfeeding troubles, everything!

So now the thought of going through that again is just debilitating.  I'm hoping there is something that can help.

I listened to the Hypnobabies tracks every night during the last month or so of my last pregnancy.  I was able to have a VBAC and was very comfortable and confident that it would happen.  The tracks definitely helped me relax.  I did have an epi, but not until 9.5 cm.  What it boils down to is that I was afraid to push.  I wasn't checked before the epi, so I didn't know I was almost complete.  Everyone said they never would have guessed.  A lot of my fears were gone as a result of listening to the tracks, though. I didn't listen to them during labor at all, just every night before going to sleep.

I'm less than halfway into the pink kit, but so far it has shown me a lot of things to change inside my body to help with pain, like if I feel a lot of pressure on my right hip as the baby comes into the pelvis it has shown me how to move my right hip out independently to make a tad bit more room, same with the tailbone and sacrum. It also has shown me different positions and how some of them make me feel more open and some make me feel very closed and small. It's been really helpful so far. I have not even started listening to the cds that came with it yet. But now I know during my last labor when I had my husband push on my lower back to help with the pain it actually made my birth slow down because it made my pelvic area smaller, thus making it harder for baby. I really think it will help a lot with this birth.

aruss, that really sounds horrible. Just the flu alone I think would have sent me over the edge. I hope this next birth goes better for you! I have decided that I will not be inviting anyone except the midwife over for this birth, to many people can really mess up a birth.

So, if anyone else is doing the hypnobabies CDs, do they put you to sleep? I seriously have not yet made it through a track without falling asleep, and then consequently I listen to 3-4 tracks before I wake up enough to turn it of and go to sleep. Hopefully it really does work on a subconscious level because that's all I'm getting!!!

This is my 5th pregnancy using Hypnobabies and I've still never made it through a track without falling asleep!  In fact, I use them to help with my insomnia.  Seriously.  redface.gif

Haha that's awesome. Do you find it helped with your 'birthing time'?

Same here!  I am on week three, and have not made it through a single one without falling asleep.  I'm also averaging four days a week of listening to the tracks, so I know I need to start doing better there and listening every day.
