Pump house ideas

Hello!  We have a great well, but the cover  for the pit is about to cave in.  The pit is made of cinder blocks and is a 6 ft round 6 ft deep pit.  The last cover was built be my previous partner about 5 years ago and would still be great, but it rotted due to contact with the soil.  I am planning to dig out around it some, but I truly have no clue what I am doing, other than 7th grad wood shop.  I was wondering if anyone had some creative ideas.

Ours is just plywood & treated lumber set ontop of the cinder blocks, I think...
