lower back ache and cramping

My 18-month-old had hand, foot and mouth virus, and I think passed it to me, as I've felt very flu-like the past few days.  Low fever, aches, pains, sore throat, congestion, blah.  But the lower back ache really intensified yesterday and last night and I'll be damned if it didn't feel like contractions!  Rhythmic, building to a point, couldn't get into a position that felt comfortable.  I finally fell asleep, and then it started again this morning.  No bleeding or any other signs of miscarriage.  My midwives seem not to be concerned, and even if it was a miscarriage, not much we could do at this point (I'm ten weeks this Sunday).  Anyone had anything similar?!  If I hadn't been through natural labor once, I don't think I would've identified the pain as contraction-y.

Hi, I just wanted to say that I've been having similar sensations. While I can't say I've been experiencing any sort of fever, I do have a ton of congestion and my lower back hurts in the evenings. This is my first pregnancy, so I can't liken them to actual contractions. I will say, though, that they feel like menstrual cramps and the only thing that helps is my husband rubbing my back and putting counter pressure against my back.

I was worried at first, but it isn't accompanied by any kind of bleeding, and all my other pregnancy symptoms (sore boobs, nausea, and exhaustion) are still strong, so I've just attributed the feeling to first trimester symptoms. I read that menstrual like cramps (and I do get a low back ache when I'm on my period) are to be expected in the first trimester. I hope that helps!
