I went to the physio today, and she thinks the pain im getting around my hips/pelvis/groin is spd.. ive had this since about  7weeks.. maybe even before around my hips.. everything i  had read about it up to this point said it was more a 2nd and 3rd trimester thing.. am i just really unlucky? i already have a very hypermobile pelvis which has caused me problems since i was 12.. so im guessing this is why.. but oh gosh.. im worried at how much worse this mite get.. my physio had already given me a brace for my hips and lower back just before i got pregnant to help me with transfers and sitting.. so now shes told me to wear it lower (more around my hips) when the pain is too bad.. eek..

Jumping over from April, but I start getting SPD early in my 1st tri, too!  The first pregnancy I had it (DD2) it didn't start until later, then with my son it started about 16 weeks, then with my later miscarriage it was 8 weeks, and then this time I was already feeling that horrible popping by 7/8 weeks once again.  I've tried to be really careful as to not aggravate it this early on and to wear my SI brace when I can, because usually by the end for me it's so terrible I can barely move at times.  And unfortunately I've yet to find a care provider or technique that provides me any relief.  But yeah, I think some of us are just terribly unlucky.   Thankfully (at least for me) it disappears immediately with birth, but still...

Yes!

I had it starting in my fifth month in my last pregnancy...actually had some kind of sprain and it was aggravated by a car accident. Was on crutches, and for a bit couldn't walk at all. Finally got better in my 8th month. I am about 8 weeks now and have started feeling twinges. Saw my chiropractor today (for me the only thing that has helped) and she recommended getting a trochanter belt, which I just ordered. I also have a jeunique girdle type thing that I wore throughout my last pregnancy. The chiro also gave me an excercise to do--multiple times a day; squeezing a balll between my knees (small one, like a tennis ball) for 10 to 20 seconds, 30 at a time, to build up muscles in that area. Any other tips?

I'm sorrry to hear your both suffering already aswell.. *hugs all round* really hope your doesnt get too bad.

I am now wearing brace to be able to sleep, also using hot water bottles and wheat bags around pelvis to try and help.. what kind of supports have you got/used? im using a pre-pregnancy hip belt atm which i have anyway for a very unstable pelvis (i cant walk because y pelvis is so unstable). Im at 11 weeks exactly and i just cannot believe how much trouble im having with this pain already. does it just intensify and worsen as u go on? have any of you resorted to pain relief? im already taking medication due to my long term health conditons but im trying to be careful to keep doses low, and to a minimum but OW.. this really hurts.. also do either of you get the pain between your legs? its almost worse then the hip/sacriololicic/lower back pain.. i think thats the only pain i didnt experience pre pregnancy.. im concerned about the gap aswell as i swear i can feel a gap..

Im going to try the tennis ball squeezing excersise that sounds like a good one to add to my list, thankyou for the suggestion, any others would be so very appreciated :) x

this is what i sleep in every night at the moment for my spd.. atm it is a bit big on me which physio hopes will stop me from needing another one too soon.. but im wondering if any of you have an pregnancy specific ones and if they are any better? i got this before i was pregnant to help support my lower back and hips and help me sit as my back bends too much which makes me floppy.. this has special straps to hold the hips in which helps.. but it just doesnt feel like enough, at the same time as being mega uncomfortable

I haven't seen one like that, but that looks MUCH more comfortable.  There is no way I could sleep in mine.  Mine looks like this, but underneath it has the two "block" like things that you line up with your iliac crests so that it puts pressure on each side when you tighten it (and keeps the pubic symphysis from separating).

Mine feels REALLY good when I get it extremely tight.  Doesn't feel so great on my belly but does wonders for my pelvis.

ooo interesting, i dont know if id need something else for lower back if i had that one.. my hips are quite long.. and high.. ha.. im intreagued by your one tho.. mine is boned at the back and the material is ribbed and quite thick, its not exactly comfy and it makes my pyjamas stick into me lol.. but it does help with the hip dislocations especially.. do u think i should ask to be refferred to the maternity physio/ot when i see my ob?
