25mo needs dental work under general anaesthesia -- any advice?

This summer my son had a bad fall and damaged two of his front teeth. The dentist wanted to wait and see, as they didn't look too bad then. Now they've gotten much worse and he needs work done tomorrow morning scheduled at 10:30am.

He can't have breastmilk 4 hours prior, water 2 hours prior. We have to skip breakfast obviously, etc.

Any advice for before and after the surgery? I'm terrified and anxious, especially about how he will handle skipping breakfast and not being able to nurse after 6:30am.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Just a hug, it's hard when your child is restricted from BM or food. Can you wake him up early (yes, it will stink for you) and give him some food and then nurse him back down and hope he sleeps until close to the time of the surgery?

Good luck!

I did some searching.....some institutions/anesthesiologists classify BM as a clear liquid (so up to 2-3 hrs prior).  You may wish to inquire. The 4 hour rule seems most common though.

Also apple juice and pulp free popsicles apparently are clear liquids, at least it may help more than water to give a bit of energy and calories two hours prior.

Good luck and best wishes.
