Calling all babyname nerds! Help me name this twin! - Page 3

Our younger daughter is Isla (eye-la). (Our older daughter is Helen, but that's out because of your H name veto.)

We know an Etta, which I think was a great choice for our close friends.  Since they had their Etta, who is just Etta, we've met two others, both of whom used Etta as a nickname for something longer.  One was Henrietta (H name, I know) and the other was Marietta which could sound cute with Calliope.

Cora and Clara were suggested upthread, and I really like both of those.  Don't know if you want two C's though.

I like some of the other Greek suggestions to pair with Calliope.

Good Luck!

Ok, so, I've gone through this whole thread with DH AND a whole baby book and a half of another baby book. Whew! He is really picky. I always tell him he played too many word association games as a child, and basically cant see past the immediate thought he has associated with a name. For example, I say "Fiona" he says "Apple". I say "Eliza" he says "Day" (the name of a character in a Nick Cave song- she is murdered.)  See the trend? Makes naming kiddos hard!

So, here's what he kept off the huge list that we made together (hey, at least he participated):

Evelyn

Alice

Matilda

Amelia

Eleanor

Olive

Lauryl

Violet

Emma

Clara

Maybelle

Adrianne

Magnolia

And as potential middle names: Jane, Mae, Rose, and Elizabeth.

He vetoed so many names, but the ones I really liked were:

Susannah

Cecilia

Lydia

Colette

Gabriella

Rosalyn

Elisa

Elyse

Anyway, always open to more opinions, and thanks for all your help so far!

Of your new list, I like Eleanor best. There's a famous queen Eleanor of Aquitaine that married two kings and gave birth to quite a few famous children. King Richard and Prince John's mom of England and a Louis of France.

Callie and Ellie sound great!

I don't like the possibility of the A names since Ada has already taken that initial.

Emma and Clara seem a bit overused to me.

Laurel has possibilities but I like it spelled better without the y. Callie and Laurie isn't bad for nicknames.

A few more -

Tallulah - Someone in my extended family used this name. They call her Lulu. It seems sweet and not too popular.

Annabelle

Marielle

I like reading people's ideas of nice names.

However, does anyone actually really name their kid pre-birth?  I know I've picked names but then never actually used them once I saw the kid.  And with the twins I had a name for A and B but once they were born A got B's name and B was nameless for a month.

Matilda has always been one of my favorite names. I loved the book and movie growing up and was planning on using it for a daughter of mine (I still may!)

I like the sound of Matilda Jane. biggrinbounce.gif

mumm- We had our daughter's name, Scarlett Khaleesi, from about the time I was six months pregnant. We did not have a backup (only a boy's name just in case!) and I think it fits her perfectly.

Actually, hubby and I had all the kids named pre-birth. Also, we told our friends and relatives a name on the "B" list. so no one could criticize the baby's real name pre-birth.

I'm so good at naming kids that my kids used to have to say "thanks, everyone says that" when someone would hear their names for the first time and say "What a great name you have!".

None of my kids have popular names but they do have names that are easy to say, easy to spell and a tad old-fashioned. They are all family names picked from the 1850's to early 1920's on both our family trees. This makes both sides of the family happy to have family members honored. It also gives us leeway with hubby's Jewish relatives who only name after the dead relatives and best of all, avoids the "Jr" thing or "little Bob" that I personally detest so.

I agree that Callie and Ellie sound great together! They also work with Ada. From your list I also think Evelyn, Amelia and Magnolia go with the other names.

My faves are Susannah (Susie), Evelyn (Evie) , Talitha (Tilly), Caroline (Carrie or Cara), Laurel (After a dear friend that was actually a guy, who died when I was a teen.)

We like to have a good list- and both times so far we knew as soon as we looked at the kiddo what the name would be. With Adaline it was between Adaline, Calliope, Coraline , but pretty much just "knew" it would be Adaline from the moment we both agreed that we liked the name and with Charlie it was a toss up between Charlie and Samuel until the moment we looked at him. I feel like baby A is Calliope because I felt a lot more movement on the side she was on earlier and because I picked that name first and she (likely) will be born first. But, Im not set on it. If B comes out looking like a Calliope to me, then that's what Ill name her. But, Yeah, I pretty much have to have a list narrowed down to 2-3 names or else I will be crying because of arguing with DH postpartum. Waiting until the kid is born to make a decision is always our plan. but narrowing it down to a few names is a must.

(Ps. As far as "assigning" names, I cant bring myself to do it until kids are born. I dont refer to babies by selected names while Im still pregnant. And I dont do things like have blankets made with those names on it or anything like that.)

Lovely name choices - I like the same naming style.

Adding (or repeating, possibly by now?) a few, cause I can relate to having a dh who ends up vetoing almost everything:

Muriel

Isobel

Rosalind or Rosalin/Rosalyn

Ottelie

Vanetta

Ingrid

Cecily or Cecilia (maybe not with Calliope, though)

Nettie

Eleanor Rose is also lovely, for one's you already have on your list.

My vote is for Evelyn!  Callie and Evie (soft e sound) sound so cute together, IMO!

Both my girls were named before they were born.  DD1 was just a name I really liked plus my middle name.  DD2's first name came to me in a dream and her middle name is a tribute to my great gramma who passed away while I was pregnant.  Her favorite color was purple, so DD2's middle name is Violet.  :)

Matilda Jane is super cute boutique brand of girls' clothes. :)

Our list for this girl included

Erienne
Evelyn
Gabriella
and, thanks to this thread, our new favourite, Isla.

Feel free to take any of those if you like since I've shamelessly stollen from your thread lol.gif. We also have Adaline on our list but you probably won't be needing that suggestion.

We like to have a short list and then wait to see what the baby looks like. Our first LO ended up with the two middle names we'd chosen as first and second names because the names we'd chosen just didn't suit her. It took us 24 hours to decide and I was so glad we didn't have to start from scratch in that first days haze.

My DD's name is Talia Elizabeth Anne.

Should we have another girl, her name will be Gwendolyn Aimée.

Since Calliope is a muse (and goddamned I love that name), here is a list of the nine muses. (I, however, am not a fan of Urania.)

Calliope Epic poetry
Clio History
Euterpe Flutes and lyric poetry
Thalia Comedy and pastoral poetry
Melpomene Tragedy
Terpsichore Dance
Erato Love poetry
Polyhymnia Sacred poetry
Urania Astronomy

We named DD before she was conceived, Seraphina. I stumbled upon the name, saw it as a name of a movie on Netflix and fell in love with it. We conceived a couple months later. Although when she first came out, I was calling her after the baby I miscarried before I got pregnant with her, Llewella, even though I called her Phina throughout the pregnancy.
Some people do name their babies before they're born. smile.gif I don't think there's a right or wrong way to do it.

for my twins i picked two names that dont really sound a like, but their nick names match up great, i love it.

We do not call them by their nick names mind you, unless we are being extra cute or in the case of the web URL we got for them,

i'm big on using full names for a very long time and letting the person decide if they want the nick name for the most part.

and i just have to say that as a person that was always looking for names that had letters like X,Q,V,& Z's in them

i would a very hard time having a Z last name and not naming my kid something that gave them the initials of XYZ,

but yeah I'm kind of hopeless like that.

one that comes to mind for you is Victoria, love it and it feels good with the other names

We have an Amelie (Omily), Reagan (Reegan) and a Hadley.  I haven't heard of any more Hadley's.
