When is your first prenatal appointment, and what is done at this visit?

(I know the standard answers, I mean specific to you and your situation!)

My first appointment is going to be at 6 weeks - I'll have an ultrasound and a visit with my midwife. I'm not due for a pap, so I'm not sure if there will be an exam or not. I'm just so, so anxious to see that little heartbeat and have confirmation that all is well. The next two weeks can't go by fast enough!

I have to wait a while for mine.  I'm trying to be patient.  I have a "Welcome Visit" scheduled for Nov 5th, and from the sounds of it, it might be a small group of people coming to be introduced to the practice itself.  (I am at a new practice this time around).  My first real appointment isn't until the 12th.  I think I will be just about 11 weeks at that point. 

I'm imagining they will give me a brief physical, and I am due for a pap, so an examination is imminent as well.  I might have blood work done to check on iron levels...I really just can't wait to hear the heartbeat, that just makes things so much more real!

I'm using this appointment as an "interview" to make sure that I have enough say in what goes on...I was supposed to go in for a regular check up, but then found out we are pregnant.  If this doesn't go well, then I am going to talk to a practice based at at Birthing Center and a Homebirth Midwife.  (The rules around here make birthing centers and homebirths pretty comparable).

We had to do IVF to get pregnant so I have my first ultrasound October 15 (6w5d) and I may have another at about 8 weeks along. I won't see my regular OB until just before Thanksging though--I haven't even called for an appt yet. I am having a hard enough time waiting until my appointment next week; I am just as glad not to have to wait any longer.

I don't think I'll even call my OB until about 12 weeks.  Then I think they'll just get basic stats (height, weight, BP) and do a blood test.  I'm secretly hoping to find a midwife who will support a homebirth (VBA4C) and try for that but use the OB as a back up.

My HMO does initial prenatal visits between 7-10 weeks. They get weight and blood pressure, a urine sample, a pap, and several vials of blood. 

I'm going in in a week. I'll be 7w1d. I don't know if they will do another pap since I had one at my visit in May with my previous pregnancy and they already know that I have dysplasia, which showed up on my previous pap, so I'm not sure what the point of another one would be.  (I had a colpo and was actually supposed to have a LEEP this cycle, but ended up pregnant, so that will have to be rescheduled).

I have my first appointment on Nov 5th as well. I'll be 10weeks at that point I think. With my first pregnancy I went to a prenatal group with other women due around the same time as me with midwives. It was fun. So this time around I tried to get into the same thing, but the midwives opened their own clinic and now take individual clients. (where before they did all the prenatal work and prepared you, but a doctor whoever was on call did the delivery)
So I'm still excited about seeing midwives for all my prenatal care, and this time they will be there for the birth in the hospital.
But anyways, I'm not really sure what to expect at the appt. They might look for a heartbeat but they might not because it will be early. And I'm assuming they will get some bloodwork. The usual! I'm excited to just get it all started!
Here's hoping I feel better by then!

My first appointment is on Monday the 15th as well.  I'm pretty sure I'll get an ultrasound at that appointment (I'll be 6w3d) and I cannot wait.  I want to refuse the standard STD testing (syphilis, etc) because I quite frankly don't want to give up the blood for something I already know I don't have.  

We're going with a different obstetrics practice than the first time, because although I liked the nurse practitioner I saw, the physician tried to push cytotec on me after we confirmed the m/c to "get on with my life".  I refused and hung up on the guy.  (This is not a dr's are evil post, but he clearly missed the boat on courtesy and sympathy.)  Soooo, we'll see how this new OB goes.  He comes highly recommended, so there's that.

Our first appointment isn't until 11 weeks. We tried getting in at 8 weeks with our midwife, but DHs schedule didn't work with our midwife's. At this point I just want to tell people but I know it's a little early. I don't think I'll be able to keep it quiet until 12 weeks though!

Our first apt. is November first which will be 9 weeks. I did end up telling one close girlfriend today because I needed an ob dr. and she is due the same time :) So excited because I have two close friends (and hopefully soon a third) that will be due in June with me!

I'm not sure who Im going with at this point. I've moved from the area where I had my four girls and I'm trying to convince my MW to accept me as here patient. My place would roughly be an hour drive for her, she's a home birth MW, so she feels it will be too far from the others moms that would be due around the same time. There are two other ones I'm looking at in the are close to me. I have a general consultation with one of them on the 29th and I have not made an appointment with the other one to meet her. My original MW said she would let me know today if she will take me. I'm hoping she will.

I might mosey in around 12 weeks or so lol. I've got a few decisions to make about care and I know the drill so no rush for me.

I just got the good word from the MW, she's going to take me after all.  Im so relieved and happy.  You know what they say ,If it aint broke don't try to fix it.

I'm thinking something similar to this. I don't want to go see anyone this early in case I lose it in these early days. I already know I'm pregnant for sure because AF hasn't arrived and I've done plenty of home pregnancy tests....so all they would do is make me an appointment for an ultrasound at 12 weeks anyway, oh and do a blood test I guess  So I think I would rather just wait until about 10 or 11 weeks myself and then make the phone call to book an appointment.

I assume this would be okay and there is no danger in waiting that long...?

I honestly don't know, and I'm starting to get a feeling of pressure. I'm in a different state than with DD, and haven't yet found a care provider. I'm in the researching and interviewing process to find a local midwife. I also am aiming for a VBAC, and a homebirth, I think. I need to get on the ball with this I think.

Definitely no danger unless past history suggests need for closer monitoring.  I'm only going in early because of prior m/c.  I could not be calm, cool and collected for 6 more weeks!

My first appt is the last week of october, and I will be 7 wks and 3 days then. I have been going to this doctor for a while for regular gyn care. I had my other two in totally different places, so I don't really know what will be done at the first appt, but I am excited!

I have no idea when I will go. I feel like I should wait a few weeks, make sure it is a sticky bean. The, I am not sure if I am going to go see my family dr. before I find a midwife or not. I kind of like the idea of just starting with a midwife and not bothering with the Dr office, since I am pregnant, not sick... I have some mama friends around who have used midwives and I will be getting recommendations and doing the interview thing.

I feel a little nervous because I am starting this pregnancy at a pretty high weight for me, and last time around I saw one midwife in the FSBC who made me feel really bad about my weight gain. I am sort of shell-shocked. I want someone who will give me information and gentle advice without judging me or lecturing me. That does no good and a lot of harm for me (an emotional eater and prolific worrier...)

Had first appointment and we saw the heart beating!!!  This a huge relief after my m/c in May.  I'm still a little shaky about it.  I hope everyone has great news...the appointments are going to start rolling in!

We saw a heartbeat today too!  I've been feeling increasingly nauseous everyday, so it was nice to see what's been causing all my troubles.  We're still under the care of the RE for another month (hence the early ultrasound),  but I scheduled the first visit with our homebirth CNM for a month from now.  I can't wait for for that visit too!
