Hi BabySmurf! I'm curious if your doc/midwife said anything about the spotting or what would cause it? Also, do you mind telling me what the ultrasound was like?

My PA's office called yesterday to let me know that I had approval from my insurance for another IUD and when would I like to schedule that? lol.gif

So I have a confirmation of pregnancy appointment on the 29th instead! I'm half hoping she will do one of those early ultrasounds, I will be around seven weeks then, but I don't really know if that's a possibility or not.

I haven't any more spotting, so I'm feeling much calmer and just playing the waiting game. No symptoms still I don't think. I've been feeling bleh off and on today, but I think that's because I got up at 4:30am to work caffix.gif and not due to the pregnancy. I'm finishing up a master's degree this fall and work as a research assistant as well. My head was just not in the game at all last week! So this week I am playing catch up.

They said the bleeding can be caused by anything from overexertion from moving too much, to sex, to a troublesome BM...that sometimes it just happens.  It can happen at implantation.  It could also be caused by a tubal pregnancy.  So that is one of the main reasons why they check, I guess.  As for the ultrasound, they did a transvaginal (internal) ultrasound.  It was pretty clear that the baby was there; I could see the baby's body and see the heart beating in the cavity.  It looked sort of like a grain of rice, but you could start to see the arm and leg buds coming out.  We could also see the yolk sac (? right is that what it's called?).  It struck me that they can see a lot on there, probably from very early on, but I *think* the heart doesn't start to beat until about week 6.

And I spoke with an on call MW over the weekend, and she said that they would do an ultrasound just to make sure that things were okay, but the ultrasound department was at the hospital, so I didn't actually speak with a MW about details at all.  They did call to confirm that the baby looked good though.

I would definitely mention that you experienced some spotting so that they know...although I would bet that because of the timing, you may have just had implantation bleeding, which is really common.

As for the symptoms, I still don't really have them...I may get a wave here and there of sleepiness, or my appetite is off, but overall I feel really normal...it's funny, the symptoms are pretty miserable when you have them, but I think we worry more when they are absent! I wouldn't worry too much about it...from the sound of this thread, the bleeding isn't really a big deal.  hug2.gif

I'll be waiting for an update! And good luck catching up on work!  I sometimes think that the exhaustion I feel in early pregnancy is solely due to cutting out caffeine, lol! Once that wears off, I tend to feel better....maybe this time I will stay off of coffee for good!

Thanks so much BabySmurf! That is all good info to know. Wow, that must have been so amazing to see your baby. I had a 20 week ultrasound with my younger ds and my older ds cried miserably through the whole thing. The ultrasound tech was super annoyed and went really fast. It wasn't exactly a magical moment lol.

I must admit I haven't stopped drinking coffee redface.gif. Only one cup each morning. Although this morning I only had half.

And not to make light of your situation, but your story about your FIL had me laughing. Only because of the sheer awkwardness of it! That really needs to be a scene in a movie with Tina Fey.

I'm another one with some spotting: bright red. But I'm only 4 weeks along (was due for my period Sunday) so I really don't know if there would be any point to an ultrasound. I think I could talk to my family dr's office about some beta tests. I haven't figured out which way we are going for prenatal care.

Just waiting to see what happens....

oh no! that stinks!  some of my spotting was bright red too....at 4 weeks they would probably test your blood levels rather than an ultrasound just yet.  it's so hard not knowing!  hug2.giftry to relax and hang in there.

That definitely doesn't sound like a fun ultrasound! They truly are amazing though!

If the coffee isn't bothering you, then I wouldn't worry too much about it.  I really believe that if you listen to your body, it will let you know if something is bad.

And with my FIL...Tina Fey would totally be able to capture the nature of the situation, lol! Truly I could fill a book with all of the uncomfortable (but thoroughly amusing) things my FIL comes up with.

Hang in there allisonrose hug.gif.  It could very well just be from implantation. I know the waiting game can be crazy making!

Had some more red spotting last night. Today just some brown spotting. I took the last Dollar Tree test and the control line was darker than the test line so I am assuming my hcg levels are increasing. I think I might make an appointment with my family doctor to see what he recommends doing....

I'm glad things are alright! I also have been having spotting; from weeks 6-7. I didn't have any at all with my pregnancy with DD, so I was also a little freaked out. I went in for an u/s, because I was also having cramping on my left side, and they wanted to verify that it wasn't an ectopic pregnancy. For me, it turned out that I have a subchorionic hemorrhage, and its finally stopped bleeding this week. It's so scary when you can't tell what's going on with our bodies! Glad you are doing well, too!
