The "One" Thread 10/14 - 10/21 - Page 3

In the morning, before getting out of bed and with as little movement as possible, place the thermometer under your armpit. Leave it in position for 10 minutes. If you do not have the time, 3 minutes in the mouth. Do not drink alcohol the night before you take your basal temperature. Do this for five consecutive days. Make a note of all the readings and then average them out. Use a mercury thermometer (digital thermometers are to be used orally only).

You can use a digital thermometer orally, but it is not recommended under the armpit since it may give an abnormally low reading. Heat transfer from the skin to the thermometer is slower in the armpit than under the tongue; the digital thermometer may read before the heat transfer is complete.

As per:

Although, as I doing research for this, one of the articles mentioned ear temps. So, what about getting an ear thermometer instead if you're that reluctant to temp vaginally?

ROTFLMAO.gifWho-ha!!!

I was temping under the arm, but I was getting crazy low readings. I thought it was just me, lol! The problem with temping anywhere else is that I have two kids in bed with me, so they try and grab the thermometer while I'm temping, and I have to get up to reach it, so I just stopped cause I was getting too frustrated. Now I just check my CM daily, and closer to TTC time I will use OPKs to kind of narrow down the timeframe.

I'm not too sure about temping under the arm, but I know that one of DD's thermometers came with a special very very wide sensor for it.  I could never get it to work though.

I am also a mouth breather, but because I always do it my temps are accurate enough.  I confirm it with OPKs, etc.

Hi ladies,

So I feel like I should be ovulating like... Yesterday, but my temp keeps dropping and this morning I got my lowest temp yet this cycle. My chart is in the box above, if any of you could take a look at it (and previous charts if that helps) and give your suggestios on what might have caused this I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,
Em

Could be the ovulation dip?  I get a very low temperature before mine shifts.  It also could be that your body is gearing up to ovulate and then doesn't?  I saw that one of your cycles was 61 days?  Mine was doing similar things this summer.

Hi everyone. I am hoping to join this thread as I am TTC #2.  I've been following by reading posts the past few months but have not gotten around to officially joining!! Until now...

I am 36 and mama to a 9 yo DD. This is our 2nd month officially TTC, though I've been hopeful and not too careful for longer. I am nervous and excited, optimistically hopeful, as I enter the end of my TWW. I am 10 DPO per OPKs and CM, AF due Monday, 10/22. BFN by FRER yesterday and today; early-ish, I know but I was hoping...

I am so grateful to all of you who share your thoughts and experiences here. It has made a world of difference for me the past few months as I have been looking for information and a safe place smile.gif

Baby dust to all of you!!

So, I was able to notice enough change even using the not so greatly accurate temporal thermometer (and monitoring other signs), I have a big enough thermal shift I guess, that I could do it. I will fully switch to the bbt one next cycle if I didn't conceive. I realized I wasn't using the temporal thermometer quite right in the first part of the month, if I only apply gentle pressure, I'm able to get more consistent readings, but would still not recommend it for BBT.

I'm a bit confused because supposedly the temporal one is supposed to be around .8 higher than an oral thermometer, but it's not working out that way when I compare the temporal to my BBT thermometer.  Has anyone used the Mabis basal thermometer with good results?

Hi ladies. I am experiencing an early loss. I was 4 weeks today, got my BFP a week ago.

Now I have another chance to lose weight and get stronger. I was already feeling sore and weak, although I was very happy about the baby...

Does anyone else want to be thread keeper for a while? I am not going to try again until after the 1st of the year. I will check in but I want the flexibility to check out for a`while, too.

I'm sorry to hear it anyalily. hug2.gif

Oh Anya, I read about this in the morning and wanted to respond, but then the board was down all day. How are you feeling today? You are in my thoughts.

Anyalily  I am so sorry to hear that, that must have been heartbreaking.

hug2.gifhugs anyalily.  I would say that I would take over the weekly thread but Im super inconsistent!  But if no one else wants to then Im happy too.  Take care of yourself!

Oh Anya, I am SO, SO sorry! hug2.gif I hope you are able to take some time to relax and recover and focus on what you need. I find self care the hardest to actually accomplish, though I intellectually recognize how vital it is. It is darn hard to actually make it a priority!! Be good to yourself.
