2 hour glucose test

have you had it? how did it make you feel and did you pass?

all patients at my chosen hospital HAVE to have it done, so there's no getting around it.

just trying to get an idea of what to expect. i've heard conflicting reports of if you feel ok it means you did well and if you feel bad you probably failed or if you feel good that's bad because you already have too much blood sugar? i dunno. i know there's nothing i can do to change my results, i'd just like to know what i'm getting into i guess!

Sorry you have to do it Joyriders... I am not doing it this time (or did i do it with DD2).  I dont remember if I had the 1 hr or 2 hr with DD1.  I remember it not feeling great, but i passed.  I dont like having blood taken though, so that may have been why I didn't feel well.

I felt a little nauseated (it's really really sweet) but passed.
Just try not to worry about it; whatever the outcome, it's not the end of the world!

I did the fasting blood sugar test, which was more complicated, but due to food allergies was the only option.  I had to fast from dinner til the next morning (8 hours), get blood drawn, then eat a full meal w/ plenty of sugar (OJ was always the suggestion) and get blood tested 2 hours after eating.  This is WAY more complicated, but allowed me to get my blood sugar tested and not do the drink.

I only did the test with pregnancy 1 and 2 b/c i couldn't opt out.  I didn't do it w/ 3 & 4 and don't plan on doing it w/ 5.  That said, I eat no processed foods, minimal sugars (honey or maple syrup), minimal fruit, and a good balance of veggies and protein.  Since that's a diabetic diet anyway, my midwife isn't worried about the test unless something shows up that will change her mind.

I had to with my other two pregnancies. If you refrigerate the solution it tastes A LOT better. Just chug and get it down. It made me feel icky for a little while, but ate afterward and I was fine.

I have only had the 1 hour test, passed both times - one time my OB told me i could eat a normal breakfast then come in and drink the drink and do the test and the 2nd time she told me to fast overnight, then drink the drink (like 8am) and then do the blood draw..  The 1st time i felt ok, gross but not horrible.. the 2nd time, i felt AWFUL ..by the time i got out of there and got to eat i was shaking so much i could barely pick up my food..  i passed both times.. i didn't do the test last pregnancy and don't really plan to this time but if i do it will have to be after a normal meal because i am not drinking a bunch of sugar.. (i don't eat/drink anything with near that much sugar in it anymore)

I had it with DD, and it wasn't a big deal.  Yes, it tasted sort of nasty and made me very slightly nauseous, but I have that experience just trying to eat supper half the time LOL.

At how many weeks are people being asked to take it?  Since I'm at higher risk for GD with twins, I probably need to get it done at my next prenatal, but my care has been with different doctors this past month due to the excitement around finding out it's twins.  I probably just need to call my regular doctor and check.
