Talk to me about maternity clothes waistbands

How do you ladies wear the pants/skirts that dont have a full panel? It always, always, always flips down for me when I wear it. And most of the time, the band flips down inside of the cloth that its wrapped in. I just dont see how they are functional at all.

Agreed. The band flips down and actually kind of digs into my lower belly, not comfy at all! I notice these types of pants are listed as "good for the whole 9 months!"  I think maybe this doesn't apply to twin mamas-to-be? Also, in a non-pregnant state I do not wear low-rise pants so the kind of maternity pants you're describing are just not comfy for me anyway. I do have one maternity skirt that has a flip-down cotton panel that I just choose to flip up instead.

I suppose you could try putting a maternity support belt over the waistband.  I just like the full panels in general because I'm finding they negate the need for a support belt.

wearing maternity pants today, and was so frustrated!  i want to go out and get only large dresses and yoga pants that actually stay on.  i usually wear low-waisted pants, but these are annoyingly ill-fitting and the band isn't snug enough on my belly, but if i fold it down, it just droops...

i just have never done well w/ maternity pants.  any pregnancy.  i keep thinking my body might get more 'normal' but it doesn't, and they don't fit.  maxi dresses and sweater dresses w/ leggings it may just be for the winter.  normally i hate leggings (they look terrible) but w/ boots and layers of dresses and sweaters, it works when pregnant.

I can only wear the secret fit belly pants..  seriously. that is the only thing that even remotely fits, my belly is super low so anything that goes below the belly rolls down or falls off..  i also have a pair of yoga pants that kind of fits.. but they are so low that they fall down in the back if i bend over ..

its going to be hard being super huge in such cold months this time!

I finally went to Motherhood maternity store this weekend and splurged on some new jeans. Previously I was wearing maternity pants that I'd gotten from thrift stores when I was pregnant with my almost 7yo DD.

I have to say I am LOVING these new jeans. The waistband is like the front panel was, that stretchy material that tights are made out of, but it goes all the way around. (I think this is the "norm" these days, but wow it's way better than it was 7 years ago!)  I'm not sure how well these will hold up after getting all stretched out though. My old pants had the sort of waist tightener thing that toddler pants often have, with the elastic band with button holes and buttons on the inside of the waistband.

I also have a couple pairs of yoga pants from roots (also from my DD) that are nice enough looking, and they stay up, but at the end of the day I just want to get OUT of them because they are snug right around the middle of my belly which gets annoying after awhile.

I bought some maternity pants a couple of months ago and they tell you in the store that they are designed to fit for the whole 9 months because of the stretchy panel.. but I'm finding now that some are getting a bit too tight in the hips and butt area and are not as comfortable as they used to be eyesroll.gif  Lesson learned I guess.  But now I need more clothes lol!

I live in full panel maternity leggings with tunics/dresses/long sweaters. So comfy! I do wear my pre-preggo skinny jeans a lot, but with the hair tie trick. Those are low-rise and I'm REALLY hoping they last me through the pregnancy because I don't want to splurge on maternity jeans and then not like them anyway.

I absolutely hate anything that is supposed to stay below the belly.  Those thick elastics just put added pressure on my bladder which I do not need at any point in pregnancy, first tri or third tri.  I can't imagine why they make them.  I also hate any elastic pressure across my belly, so I only do the super high-waisted stretchy panel pants at this point.

I am one that actually prefers the below the waist bands.  They do fall down all through pregnancy, but I can not stand anything over my belly.... Uhhhh, so uncomfortable for me.

Right now my clothes fit right below my belly button, as I get bigger, the band just pushes down further and further.  I will see how I am doing at the end of pregnancy.

choe'smama- my friend who is built more like you and has big ole 9lb+ babies while gaining about 19lbs liked the under the belly band.  i get fat ole love handles and the under the belly pants just bulge obscenely...  and i don't like to be squeezed anywhere!  she and i shared maternity clothes for 4 pregnancies between us, so we got to know each other pretty well in that.

that said- she found 2 pairs of jeans that looked AMAZING on her for most of the pregnancy.  both under the belly- but even she by the end was in either dresses or sweatpants!

I've found that the baby doesn't like tight elastic either. She will kick at it if its too tight! Now that is a funny feeling smile.gif

i'm a full-panel maternity jean lover. i only have one pair of pants that don't have the full panel and they are white gauzy maternity night pants that have an elastic waistband at the back, but nothing at the front. they fit right under the belly but they make me feel very frumpy.

another reason that i like the full panel pants is that it helps keep my shirt over my belly. it's starting to pop out more. like, overnight it seems. crazy.

I also like the full panels. The secret fit feel amazing, but they end up loosening up on me during the day and then they fall down. I'm really hating maternity jeans lately.. 2 of my 3 pairs from my last pregnancy are too big and the one pair that does fit is getting pretty worn out. I've looked everywhere and have yet to find another pair. :/

I got lucky this pregnacy with Maternity jeans....With our other 2 preg's I only bought bigger sized clothes cause that was all I could afford as 1 DS I was only 17, and other DS I was in my 20's and was still struggling some....I got on one of our local online garage sale sites and asked for maternity clothes, especially blue jeans...A lady had 6 pr a few were from Motherhood and others from indigo blue I believe....Just 3 have the 2" band at the top which I fell in love with...I pull them all the way up over my complete belly so comfy for me...the others were like full panel...they seem to b little big....I wear the 1x but 2 out of all these are 2x and they are too big....every pair were brand new except 1 that is size 2x...I gave $75 for all of them and the lady paid over $300 so I got a good deal....I hope all who is having trouble finding pants, or the ones who have some and trying to get comfortable wish you good luck.

I've also been doing the full panel. I don't love them, but I rarely wear jeans.. I am usually in yoga or sweatpants (becaust I am usually at home).. but when I go out I do wear jeans.. I also have a jean skirt I LOVE from old navy I've been wearing with boots.. If you are looking for great yoga pants, NY & Co has some really good ones, and usually run a great deal on them. For those who are short like me, they come in SHORT sizes!!!! Which I have yet to find anywhere else in yoga pants. They are not maternity, but they're very stretchy and comfy. I got some with DS2 also. I got 2 black pair and I wear them a lot (even to the grocery store, etc)...

I started out 30 lbs lighter this pregnancy than I did with DS2's pregnancy, so I've had to buy ALL new maternity clothes. :/ Hopefully I will stay around this size for next time so I can wear these clothes again!

Today I'm wearing the second of two pairs of jeans I bought at Motherhood, and I HATE these ones. They have a 2" think fabric covered elastic that goes around the entire waist, and it keeps flipping down, plus baby is kicking it like crazy. AND they fall down. duh.gif I knew I didn't love them, but I bought them because they were $30 instead of $60 which is how much the secret belly fit ones I love were. I guess instead of saving $30 I wasted $30 though :|

I really dislike having to spend money on clothes I'm only going to wear for a few months. On a related note, finding a winter coat has been annoying. I finally solved the problem by convincing DH to buy a coat he liked that he didn't really need, with the idea that I'll wear it until February, and he can have it after that. (it's HUGE on me now, so I figure I should still be able to zip it closed at the end. Men's XXL. The arms look hilarious, but it's nice and warm)

It's baffling to think that some people find the under-the-belly deals to be more comfortable, since I am only really happy with something hugging my belly these days. I've taken to wearing my normal jeans with carriwell belly band, which is really comfortable except when I sit down and baby treats the part sticking into my belly as a speed bag.

Okay I have to admit I'm not quite sure what the difference is between all of the options. I *think* I'm wearing full panel jeans right now but the panel only goes up to my belly button and slinks down whenever I walk. Are there fuller panels that go all the way over your belly?? This is my third baby I should know this stuff!!

Rach, I just stopped being able to do the hairband trick a couple of weeks ago and it's very, very sad. My thighs/butt just got too big for my old size.

There is a full panel waist that is a thin cotton that is above the belly, all the way up.... then there is a 3-4 inch band that sits just below the belly button.  I prefer the shorter ones.  I can not stand anything touching my bellybutton.... seriously, drives me crazy.

the full panel jeans that i have go ALL the way over my belly to my ribs, and my bump is pretty big right now. it's cozy and it helps contain it, and it helps control the fact that there is a beach ball on the front of my body. the weight of my belly doesn't bother me as much when i wear them.
