Sage was born Tuesday evening at 7:03 p.m. at Duke hospital. We transferred when her heart rate became elevated. Once we were at the hospital though she was ok! I decided to stay though because I coulndt imagine another trip in the car.
After I got into the laboring suite I labored in the tub for an hour or so. The midwives at duke are only there until 6pm (stupiud, huh??) so I had my midwife check me before she left. Thank goodness I was 9 then and she stayed with me because I was starting to push. My legs were so tired and shaky I tried several different positions before I got comfortable on my left side with my friend holding my leg up. Sage was born after an hour or so of pushing... and she was born en caul!!!
My midwife helped me catch her and pull her up to my chest while they unwrapped the cord twice around her neck. The nurse wanted to suction her but my midwife told her to not to do it. "She's crying, she doesn't need it" :) Sage was never taken from me until we were moved out of the labor room.
I am still so amazed how our hospital birth experience went. They even let us bring her placenta home!
