Help with red food ideas
Thumprint cookies filled with strawberry or raspberry jam
Red berries, if you can get 'em (I guess they're not in season for you, though!)
Mini-pizzas (heavy on the red sauce, with salami and tomato on top)
Berry-flavoured real fruit leather
Or just give 'em a bunch of unlabelled red pills. That'd confuse the teachers. :p
lima if i remember right it is you who tries to eat local right?
'red' in the world of vegetables is a myriad of colours isnt it?
to be honest with you we have been spoilt by our local veggies so dd wont even touch tomatoes and carrots out of season.
we are still getting red chili peppers - for garnish.
the beets have arrived - yeah - but would you call them red? ditto with red cabbage.
red potatoes - here too. chard would be good too. but where i live the salad dhard has not come in yet.
hmmm winter it seems is all about 'orange'. wonder if orange itself has a healing quality for moods and builds enthusiasm. interesting.
red beans and rice
red pepper hummus
Spanish rice can be sort of red
tomatoes or things with tomato sauce (pasta, pizza)
red strawberries, raspberries, cherries or cranberries- could be jam or also juice for a drink
red apple slices
some meats can be kind of red looking- corned beef, salami, pepperoni
Great ideas, thank you! The easiest main course would probably be a mini pizza with lots of red sauce showing. Or maybe a wrap using one of those tortillas that has red peppers in it to tint it (pinkish) red. Then red fruit (whatever I can find -- maybe cubed watermelon or even red grapes even though they're really purple, or just a whole red apple) and a small red treat like a thumbprint cookie or fruit leather. Thanks again!
