My period is lasting longer than usual...

My periods have always been like clockwork, but the last few months they've been wierd!  I am breastfeeding, but that made no difference with my last baby I breastfed.  Anyway, pretty much ever since I got my period back after giving birth, its been different.  It will come days or even a week later than it should.  This time it was 3 days late, and what has me even more concerned is the fact that it acted as if it was going to stop on day 6 like usual (bleeding nearly stopped and blood was not bright red), then it started back up again!  It usually lasts 6 days, but this is day 8 and it is still red and there is a moderate amount of it!

So, what the heck is going on, why am I no longer like clockwork!?  I'm only 22 btw.  I do occasionally drink RRL tea, I know I need to be more consistant with that.  I've also read maca can help regulate the reproductive processes and I take that occasionally too.

Thoughts and advice appreciated :)

Thanks!

I had really heavy periods after having babies. I was able to regulate it recently by drinking a cup of red rasberry leaf tea every day. I use yogi brand, which has like 1700 mg in a cup or something. Maybe that could help you too. Some will even drink 2-4 cups a day. But, I was able to get positive results with just one.

My periods definitely changed after my second birth.  Now they are longer and heavier and come with more dramatic PMS.  The first year of periods PP with DD, I bled more heavily than I ever have.  My cycles are actually shorter now, too.  I know this is different from your experience, but I know that the change in general freaked me out until my MW assured me that it's normal for things to change.

Thanks everyone, yeah I guess it is possible that maybe my cycles have changed to an extent.  My midwife also said they might be irregular and do funny things while breastfeeding because of the different hormones.  I have been resistant to this idea because my periods/cycles have always been so regualr even while breastfeeding, but this might be the answer since I can come up with nothing else!  Its funny though, my flow, since before i had been pregnant with either child, til now, has never changed.  It's always been moderate, and I have less cramping now than before I had kids!  This could be from a complete lifestyle change too I suppose, from the standard american diet and way of life to like the total opposite lol.  I do feel much better now as far as my health goes...

Anyway, blahblah.gif  lol

It is day 13 today, and I think it has finally stopped!!!  There was a tiny bit this morning, and nothing tonight, so I am hoping it is DONE!  Lol.  Well at least I got to try out my new cloth pads for awhile!  Lol, love them btw, to anyone who is considering switching, or who hasnt tried them yet, they are totally worth it, easy to care for, and comfortable!

I have been trying to drink RRL tea every day now that I have been having these issues.  I drank it a lot while pregnant and got out of the habit after baby.  Its a very good idea!!  I've also heard that turmeric can really help regulate the menstrual cycle, and I use that usually every day in cooking, not usually enough to taste bc I"m not a fan of the taste, but I use it bc its so good for u, and now bc I know how it can help with female issues!  Maca is supposed to help regulate the cycle as well....

Thanks everyone, and any other thoughts are appreciated as well!  I hope this is the only, the last, time that this happens, I really dont want an irregular period, NFP was so easy with a clockwork period!!
