Dd is 10.5YO and roughly 5th grade this year, and I'm wondering if there are any online resources out there we should know about/be taking advantage of? I've looked in to Kahn Academy, but most of it seems geared toward older kids (except for math, but we've already got that subject covered). I also read something about knowmia.com and looked at it briefly, but it seemed virtually impossible to tell what, if anything, was age appropriate...there was a ton there, but how on earth to go about sorting through it? It just seemed overwhelming. Are there any online resources out there that are not gaming-related (dd is not interested in that at all) that would be applicable to a 10-11 YO who is exploring different topics? I feel like the Internet has a lot to offer the younger independent learner, but I can't figure out exactly how to access it...TIA!

Have tou tried http://www.neok12.com/? A litttle too old for my kids but it might be a good resource for you.
post #3 of 510/30/12 at 12:29amHappy to learn about neok12, thanks! I find a lot of fun little games and quizzes at shepardsoftware.com, for some reason everyone seems to find the geography section enjoyable ;)
Oh, and newmoongirls.com! I can't recommend it enough--to me it feels like the same vibe as mothering.com, only for girls 8-14. I actually find a lot of benefits for homeschooling happening when dds spend time there--they read posts and strive to write thoughtful, correctly-spelled posts back, as well as posting artwork...It's a magazine and also a website with chat and forums...
