I'm using a birth center midwife and the laws in that particular state for using that particular type of midwife say that I have to see a dr. twice during my pregnancy to confirm low-risk status in order for it to be legal for her to attend my delivery. One visit has to be within a certain number of weeks from delivery (I'll probably go in the 34/35 week time frame to my family dr, they filled out my low-risk form for me last time). I figured visit #2 might as well be really worthwhile so it's a scheduled anatomy scan at 21 weeks with an OB who runs a friendly birth center about an hour away. No muss, no fuss, they get what's going on so I don't have to be stressed about the apopintment or worry about them being weird about it since I'm clearly not going to deliver there.
The thing is, I got really antsy waiting for 21 weeks b/c I already knew I really wanted to know the gender. We have 2 boys and I wanted to know whether it was time to sort through the hand-me-downs or sell them off to buy all new clothes. So I got a little crazy a little over a week ago and made a last-minute appointment at a recreational 3D ultrasound place 15 minutes away and DH and I high-tailed it over there for a quick peek. Boy #3. Posterior placenta, wiggly and happy and gulping amniotic fluid. It was just a quick look, told me what I needed to know. We're still going to do the full anatomy scan at 21 weeks, DH is most comfortable having an OB check out everything and assure us that there's nothing there to be concerned about.
We wanted to find out but she told us it was too early! We will find out at my next ultrasound hopefully! We will see if your right!
